There's definitely a green tint and black crush that wasn't there before no matter how much you deny it, the transfer's never been fixed.

I have the original theatrical editions on BD and I'm planning on buying this set. Is there any improvement in PQ for the 2nd and 3rd movies as they're on two discs?(I know Fellowship looks better due to the new transfer. And no, I don't mind the green tint .) What about the AQ? Any difference between the ES track on the original set and the discrete 6.1 track on this one?

What's the difference between these two editions?

Thanks. I'm trying to decide whether to buy these now or wait as there may be a sale when The Hobbit is released.

Here's an interesting little video that lends itself nicely to the whole "GREEN TINT" debate.

So, maybe all of you have a differing individual experience regarding what your brain considers a shade of green compared to mine.

Just watched FOTR EE for the first time. First of all it is an absolute MASTERFUL peace of film making. 2nd of all as far as a green tint I just don't see it. Perhaps VERY slight in a scene or 2 but nothing like all the crazy ranting & raving I've read.

The Extended Edition Set is currently at Wal-Mart for $44.95. That's the lowest I've seen the set at a retail store.

I just turn down the green colors on my TV. Makes it not so green-looking.

As far as I know, the only movie that is different is Fellowship, and I believe the extended have a 6.1 audio mix, instead of the 5.1 on the theatrical.

no, they are not the same transfers. besides the green tint there is a distinct increase in in detail and color's on the EE versions. soundwise they're about the same
