lol @ Twin Peaks FWWM. Just... lol.

Apparently that film received an unprecedented amount of booing @ whatever festival (Cannes?) it played at. Ebert hated it (along with most of what Lynch directs anyway) with Tarantino saying Lynch, who he used to idolize, had lost it.

Yeah, it wasn't a very good movie.

How do you not have People on Sunday???

And yeah, Les Vampires is pretty fun. I've been using that and Kino's Keaton shorts as dinner theater when I don't have any sitcoms DVRed.

Yes, the violence (for the exception of some staged toreador gouging) was absolutely real. And not just the violence heaped onto the bulls, which are referred to as "sacred" animals in Spain's culture, but also all the competing male runners, who really get the tar beat out of them. The blu-ray also contains an outstanding interview that Criterion conducted with Rosi himself. He communicates a great perspective on bullfighting, one that can only be achieved by viewing a fight up close.

Yes...agreed on Les Vampires. So much so, that I recently bought Flicker Alley's "Judex", which I've gotten through the first 4 chapters. If you like Les Vampires, then Judex is a must.

Trying to go through it slowly, but you know why they call them cliffhangers...had to watch two chapters today.

Then consider Arrow's Camille 2000 as well It would make a great double bill. Stylish villas, great cars, beautiful women, great, great soundtrack.

Take a look at this video for an excellent remix Italian band Orgasmo Sonore did for Piero Piccioni's soundtrack.

That's about all I've seen of it and I consider it a favorite silent film too (if I can even really count it as a film).

The UK release is better than the US one?

I definitely think that it is the one to own because it has a lossless track. Piccioni's soundtrack is very important for the film's dreamy atmosphere.

OK, back to Criterion now

I really didn't care for the film...I think it's mainly because of the subject matter, but I really wasn't interested.-CoopFilm

I have to agree with Coop Film. I really wanted to like this film, but I found it completely absurd. I have no idea of what all the "hoopla" was about.

Willem Dafoe = wimpiest Christ ever! (Stick with Anti-Christ, you're much better in that role Willem.)

Ugh! And he is the main character! We have to sit through this ridiculous retelling with Dafoe as some castrated pansy.

And the John the Baptist scene: What the heck was that? It looked like some lame, homosexual health spa. It was laughable. Hey...maybe it was supposed to be a comedy.

If you want to see a great Scorsese, check out After Hours, it's outstanding.

Well, almost back to Criterion. The question I've had about Camille is whether the Arrow is the Extended Cut or not? Can you let me know? Thanks.

Sorry for being so consistently off-topic

(...but I'd love to agree that the soundtrack is really fantastic---I revisit it often)

Should be extended..because that's what the initial news detailing the special features mentioned, plus the runtime is the same as the US extended too.

Hi, JR. Yes, it is the extended cut. The two releases run at 131 min.

I decided to finish The Last Temptation Of Christ.

I respect the author for what he did with the story. Yes, I was born a Catholic and I believe in what has been preached, but I can understand that some people question the entire life of Jesus.

I can see how some people may wonder if Jesus was just so willing to accept his death and leave any element of humanness behind and that's what the author of the book did. It was ultimately in the end that Jesus figured out that dying on the cross was a lot less painful than the path his life would have taken had he chosen not to die for humanity.

Martin Scorcese did a good job with the film and I think he captured the areas in great detail. I always heard a lot of controversy surrounding this film and I've heard a lot of other criticism. While I can see where it's present in the film, I don't think it was AS bad as everybody made it out to be.

Yeah, it's a little embarrassing about People on Sunday
I swear it's in my cart and I'll get it during the next sale
Regarding Judex, I've never seen any version, but would love the opportunity. It's a pity about some of these older films that haven't made it to blu-ray. It's hard to commit to a DVD if there's a chance that an upgrade is around the corner.

So I was going to try to catch up on watching more of my Criterion blurays today, but I made the mistake of turning the TV channel to TCM. The first time I turned the TV on, Anatomy of a Murder was playing. Once I start watching a movie as great as that, I can't turn away. So then later on tonight, I tried again, but On The Waterfront had just started. ........... You know the rest of the story.

Thanks, everyone! I finished this 50K race in just under eight hours and beat my previous time by 15 minutes, despite the fact that many of the trails were covered with several inches of water and that we had to use a rope to cross a creek that was overflowing with flood rapids. Slower than I wanted, because I'm getting over a knee injury, but I'm always happy just to finish these things. My legs feel as though Joe Pesci from Casino took a baseball bat to them, but this gives me an excuse to enjoy a movie or two tomorrow.

My copy of The Deep was in the mailbox when I got home, with an email that Les Miserables (the Olive Films release with Jean Gabin) is on its way. A perfect end to a good day.

After On the Waterfront they showed The Harder They Fall. A very underrated film IMO that hardly ever gets a mention when folks do a "best boxing film" list. Would love for someone to do a Blu-ray edition of it.

Can someone try putting the on-sale Criterion blu's in their Fry's shopping cart to see if it adjusts the price?

I did it the other day and had no problems, but for some reason it's not adjusting the price for me now that I'm putting new movies in my cart.
