Exclamation Want Universal movies on Blu-ray??

A while back on The Digital Bits, Bill Hunt said the format war had to end. Story Here.

He then went on to say we should write Universal and ask them to release on Blu-ray. If Universal does this (even if they go neutral), the war is over. Read this here.

What worries me is that Universal jumps, then a couple of BR exclusives see HDDVD hanging in and they go both. This could drag on forever.

I don't follow your logic. If Universal goes neutral, the war is over. No other studio would go neutral (if they are BD exclusive) AFTER Universal 'jumps'.

I whole heartedly DISAGREE.... the format war going on indefinately is to NO ONES benefit except Microsoft... the BD Exclusive studios want this over as much as we do... the sooner its over, the sooner people get off the sidelines, buy a player, and start buying discs!

Yea, if the one large studio who is exclusive to HD-DVD goes neutral, then HD-DVD has no big backer. Universal "jumping" would be seen as THE writing on the wall that HD-DVD is finished.

I think you are being naive. What makes you think Univ will jump and there is no possibility a BR studio won't have the same thinking and start supporting HDDVD.

Why do you think they are exclusive to blu-ray in the first place??? So if thinking that after the one big supporter of a format backs out that no BD exclusive will go neutral is naive, well then I guess I'm proud of being naive

Dude, Univ is a HDDVD exclusive. Why do you think it's so easy that they'll jump and a BR studio won't consider going neutral if it continues. Money makes the world go around and yes you are being naive.

The longer this goes, the more the BR studios will starting thinking "hmmmm, all that money we could me making off HDDVD also."

I can tell you this, if HDDVD is still hanging in around November, Ill be picking up a Toshiba during a sale. I'm sure there are many just like me, and you want to think the BR studios aren't thinking the same thing?

I can see Sony pictures jumping....

But as Jon Stewart would say...

"what would we do with the monkeys???"

Seriously, read my previous post, and it becomes intuitively obvious why they won't jump... they all want this OVER, until it is, sales will be limited to those people willing to take a risk, when its over, sales can finally grow into the mainstream.

The Universal jumping thing was the start of this thread, so we're all going on the hypothetical. However, we just don't understand why you think a BD-exclusive studio would go neutral or support HD-DVD if the one major supporter of HD-DVD goes neutral? Why would you support something that just lost it's only major support? I don't think any of us understand you on this right now. (Not being an a$$hole, just telling you the problem we're having w/ your logic here, and asking for an explanation).

I'm not saying that Univ swapping would make a BR studio swap(sorry for the confusion), I'm saying that there is so much confidence that Univ will swap, why is there not a worry that one of the BR studios will sell out to make more money.

I feel the longer the war goes on, the worse it is for blu ray. You are going to have guys who just want HD movies like me, buy a HDDVD player late in 07 if I am missing good new releases. The BR studios will notice this because I won't be the only one, and they will start to consider the $$$$. At the end of the day, everyone is in it to make money.

Now, if Univ goes nuetral in the next 6 mo's, that should be the end because it will deter the reason to own a HDDVD player. But if univ is still exclusive in 08, its bad.

Well, I might be naive, but you just contradicted yourself. First you say you fear a BD exclusive going neutral if Uni jumps and then you say it's over after Uni goes neutral. Make up your mind, 'dude'.

I used the email form link and put the request in. Regardless of who is going to jump ship or become nuetral, don't we all want to see universal movies on BD?

Dude, quite being an a**. Youll see in the first sentence that I said sorry for the confusion. I did not mean that once Univ went neutral, a BR studio would, I meant if Univ held out long enough a BR studio might consider it. If you think there is no way on earth a BR studio might consider neutrality if Univ doesn't jump, then you are naive.

I agree, we are arguing about something that belongs in another post and should quit hijacking this one. Back on topic.

I am emailing them now as I do not want to spend another $300 on a toshiba.

You know, I don't think I've ever seen someone say that for hd-dvd having only three studios backing them up and blue-ray having 7. Hd-dvd is doing very good if you ask me, think about it 7 to 3, there shouldn't even be any compatition with that much studio support for blue-ray. We have just barely been head to head with hd-dvd well really ahead at the moment but hd-dvd is still there right behind us waiting to take the lead, I do think that if universal did start supporting blue-ray the race to the finish will be alot easier, but we should've been having the lead the whole time with our studios. And when did toshiba ever get popular, last I heard before all the hd-dvd stuff they sucked worst than just about any other brand, that's another thing that points out how are they so up there with us and thats almost there main brand for hd-dvd. I love blue-ray and I hope it wins, start bringin' the big guns blue.
