Default Poll: Best Robots/Androids - non-animated

With I-Robot now out on BD and Short Circuit coming soon I wanted to put a poll up for best robot / android (non-animated).

Note: Androids are robots made to resemble a human. Terminator(s), Robocop, The Borg (Star Trek) are not included on my poll because they are cyborgs - a fusion of living organisms and machine. HAL from 2001 is not included because it is a computer, not a robot.

If I left any really cool non-animated robots off my poll, please post. The George Foreman Grill does not qualify.

Robocop was a Cyborg.

I think there should be two polls. One for Robots and one for Androids.

Robobcop? Is that Billybobcop's backwoods bayou cousin?

Just kidding.

I voted more along the lines of my favorites ones.

Robot -- Lost in Space (TV series) -- Danger, Danger, Will Robinson! Does it get any better than that?

Data -- Star Trek

Johnny 5 -- Short Circuit

Sonny -- I, Robot

Data is the probably the "best".

Indeed, there were some movies made in the 1960's... these should be included.

What about the menacing Maximilian (The Back Hole, 1979) ? What about old Yul Brinner (Westworld) ? The list is very incomplete

That reminds me of another one...

Saturn 3 had a very menacing robot in it (or maybe terrifying would be a better word). The movie didn't do very well so I don't think many saw it though.

Hector (the robot) pretty much chased them (Farrah Fawcett and Kirk Douglas) all over the ship trying to kill them.

I am sorry if my poll came up a little too short for you, Kirsty_mc. I cannot change my poll now because once it went up it can't come down and get enhanced. I will expand my poll the next time so it features more of what you wanted to see.

That being said, I believe my poll has the most popular and well-known robots on it.

I promise I will measure up next time. The next time you see my poll it will be longer and more satisfying.

Termiator.

A terminator is an Andriod because before it is covered in skin, it is 100% machine and built to look human.

the robots in i-robot are no different, as they can be fitted with coverings to look more human, just as the T-800/850/888's were... (ie the face on sonny)

Terminators by FAR.

Lots of good choices, but I stuck with my classic favorites. Robby the Robot, Gort, and the Lost in Space B-9, known simply as "Robot". He's my favorite - childhood thing.

Here is my first LIS Polar Lights Robot model:

I have many others, but that is a sampling of my work.
