I really should pull the trigger on Rosemary's Baby, since it's only $29 at the Best Buy down the street. Someday.
You can probably get it a lot cheaper elsewhere.

Also, Frantic is available in a Double Feature with Presumed Innocent.

Been a longtime lurker of this thread, so it's appropriate for my first post to be in here. I'm very happy to report my haul from the recent flash sale arrived today and my most anticipated of the bunch was the Three Colors Trilogy. I assumed the White disc was going to be the original version with the audio issue, however, much to my happiness, the disc was actually the second print. Couldn't be more excited to watch everything.

What came in:
Three Colors Trilogy
The Organizer
The Wages of Fear
Yi Yi
8 1/2
Army of Shadows
Anatomy Of A Murder
The Tin Drum
Summer Interlude
Ride With the Devil
On the Waterfront

Was watching some of Gojira (Godzilla) last night, and I don't know who did the subtitles but they need to take basic english again! Some of the translated grammar was pretty bad.

Sadly, I was not impressed with Presumed Innocent, and I'm not a fan of double-sets where one of the movies is a vastly inferior pick that I would never own as a stand-alone. It's sort of OCD on my part, but what can I do? I even had reservations about spending seven dollars for the Clint Eastwood set of Firefox and Heartbreak Ridge just to own Firefox, although Heartbreak Ridge is not a bad movie at all.

You could technically buy it, put it into a single disc case, and have somebody make custom artwork for you.

I've seen Traffic a few times on TV (never watched it in its entirety, always broke in).

Regarding Chinatown...

Agreed. Even in a consideration of Polanski's best films, Chinatown towers above them all. The musical score is the finest work from the master composer Jerry Goldsmith. The casting is perfect and Robert Towne's screenplay is terrific.

And how can you go wrong with a line like this:

"Okay Curly, you can’t eat the Venetian blinds. I just had them installed on Wednesday."

Are there any movies out there that Criterion is looking at adding to their collection that are currently not licensed by one of the major studios?

I'm surprised Criterion landed a movie like Traffic, considering it was a mainstream movie. I doubt they're going to get to add any major box office hits like Traffic from the late 90's to present. I know they also nabbed The Game as well. I would love to see a criterion release of Se7en.

So I'm curious as to what's left out there that's prized that Criterion hasn't grabbed or potentially can grab. I see Third Man was OOP because they lost the distribution rights, so I wonder what's the possibility they could get their hands on a movie like 2001 and give it a full force Criterion release. Or even a movie like Citizen Kane and To Kill A Mockingbird (which have gotten nice releases from WB and Universal).

Then again, I don't know how the process of all of it works. I see Armageddon and The Rock are listed as part of the Criterion collection but I don't think Criterion distributes any of their media releases.

They already released Se7en.......on laserdisc. It cost $125 when it came out!

For what it's worth, since you mentioned them, they did laserdisc releases of 2001 and Citizen Kane, as well. That was before DVD collecting became mainstream and major studios became more protective of their big name properties.

I really hope not. I wouldn't be surprised, but why would you want one of those films from them?

Packaging and the collector in me. Would look nice on my shelf.

They're not cinema masterpieces (Armageddon/The Rock) but they do have replay value for me. They're entertaining.

Plus, it's kind of silly for Criterion to put them as part of their collection and NOT attempt to have some type of release for them.

It seems like a majority of the upgrades from Criterion have been the popular films with high demand or films that sold a lot on DVD.

Those two films were released by them on DVD.

Please tell me the packaging isn't the only reason you're buying Criterions

Does DVD not count as "some type of release"? Because these two have been out on DVD from Criterion for like 10+ years.

The Harrison Ford film I want on blu-ray is Witness. It was Peter Weir's U.S. debut as a director, and he is in the Collection (not on Criterion blu yet, sadly). I saw the film in the theater, before I knew anything about Peter Weir or the Australian New Wave cinema. Only later, after I had seen several of Weir's Austalian films on VHS rentals and became aware of who he was, did I discover he also directed Witness.

Speaking of Weir, I really wish Criterion would upgrade Picnic at Hanging Rock. And while they are at it, also get the rights to two of his best films, Gallipoli and The Year of Living Dangerously. Really, really want those two in high-def, whether from Criterion or whoever will do a good job.

Oildude, the more Peter Weir on blu ray the better. Also, I'd love to see Raoul Walsh represented.
