What if they show up ala Jeff Bridges in Tron: Legacy digitally re-aged?
It is Disney after all.

In one of yesterdays headlines, Carrie Fisher rebuked her own idea of her potential role as her previous character being in a retirement home and unable to fight. She's got a lot of work to do if she wants to resume her role.

I disagree - the original cast needs to be in the first film and a fairly large part of it for it to start off on the right foot. So what if Leia or Luke look a little old and beat up. They ARE old and beat up. Its more than Nostalgia - its setting things up so they feel in-line with the end of ROTJ and the whole universe. It would be cheap and lame to just pull an "Aliens 3" and they all magically croaked at the same time and arent in the films at all. Just a cameo isnt enough.

They need to pass the reigns to the kids or something. Heck, Id be OK with them being in 2 of the 3 films and being killed off at different times so it feels realistic.

What they can NOT do is just cast whoever the hot-hand is in Hollywood right now for the original 3. Like Ryan Gosling or whomever else is being over exposed at the moment. That will KILL it fast.

Their choices are:

1) Recast and use the original 3 or at least two of them(one can be killed off screen but thats it).
2) Kill them all off off-screen. This is lame though. Its still better than some current Hollywood brat playing the roles.

So if Carrie is not going to be in the new trilogy than how will they explain what happened to her...Are they going to say she died years before???

What about Mark???

If only Han is going to be in than how will they explain them not being present???

My point exactly - they'd have to play the "they were killed off screen" card which is the laziest, most useless thing they could possibly do.

I mean - how lucky are they that the original 3 are still alive and at least in good enough shape to even do it? Thats a godsend and I bet lots of film makers wish they had access to characters from way back that they could use in a modern film that ties into an older film. Its perfect. Dont blow it!

It doesn't say that she won't be in it, she was just having a little fun with the idea (I'm sure all three "main" actors are still in discussion with Disney), and the journalist took her very seriously that it was indeed an official reveal.

I honestly think that all three will be in it to some extent (and maybe not all three for the same screen time), but as always there are some major things to be negociated beforehand, like if they will receive anything from merchandise and video releases or re-re-re-re-re releases, among other things (I'm sure they learned their lesson from the previous movies).

It is a business after all, even if it's for show

George Lucas Sheds Light on Return of Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, and Mark Hamill to ‘Star Wars’

Since Disney purchased Lucasfilm and announced the imminent creation of Star Wars Episode VII, we’ve heard a string of rumors suggesting that the film will feature the core cast of the original Star Wars trilogy. They might not be the primary characters, but they’ll be in there. At various times, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill have suggested that they’ll be back, and Harrison Ford‘s return to the role of Han Solo has been persistently rumored.

Now there’s a quote from George Lucas that doesn’t exactly confirm that the actors will be back for the new film(s), but at least explains where much of the talk came from in the first place.

Bloomberg Business Week has a big profile on Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm, and in the piece George Lucas says,

Quote:
We had already signed Mark and Carrie and Harrison—or we were pretty much in final stages of negotiation. So I called them to say, ‘Look, this is what’s going on.’ Maybe I’m not supposed to say that. I think they want to announce that with some big whoop-de-do, but we were negotiating with them. I won’t say whether the negotiations were successful or not.
From context, it sounds as if these negotiations were held before Disney announced the purchase of Lucasfilm, which means they may have been before the final script was in the works and J.J. Abrams was hired to direct. Given the caution Lucas expresses with his statement, we won’t take this as final confirmation, but it certainly explains what has driven various comments from both the cast and onlookers over the past few months. And at this point, if the trio doesn’t return, it’ll be a surprise.

What for? The new trilogy is SUPPOSED to take place many years later. What would be the point of digitally re-aging them when they already ARE at the age they are supposed to be?

The one character they need to bring back is the man responsible for the destruction of two Death Stars: Wedge Antillies

Daniel Radcliffe has no talent? Are you kidding me? Even if you don't like the 'Harry Potter' films, he's done other things and he's a VERY good actor. Try not to let your hatred for 'Harry Potter' cloud your judgement.

Like what? That ghost story movie he did(name escapes me) wasnt too bad but I wouldnt call him the 2nd coming of Dustin Hoffman or anything. Seems like Potter fans allow their love for Potter to get in the way of their logic much the same as I *apparently* have. Face it - Radcliffe won the movie lottery as most of the younger cast did with Potter. It raked in serious dough and they all benefitted immensely from it. The film made them, not the other way around. You could stick a lot of people in those roles with NO discernable quality issues. If they didnt do Potter, those kids would be doing other lower-grade films or TV shows at best. It is what it is.

Example - Harrison Ford is still well-known and a big star without Star Wars. Who the heck was/is Radcliffe without Potter?

Besides, he aint right at all for the part anyways. Hes too English-sounding and just wont work. Besides, hes already had his big hit and he IS Harry Potter. It'll be hard for him to ever be anyone else so lets not try to make him an offspring of the Solo/Skywalker bloodline. No thanks.

He's done things like 'A Young Doctor's Notebook', 'December Boys', and 'My Boy Jack' as well, all of which he was very good in. I don't care if his career is defined by playing Harry Potter, as long as he makes films, and shows he can be more than that, I'm happy. And so far, he has.

They found exposure with the series, so what? You act like that's a bad thing. You can't tell me that Emma Watson isn't a great actress, have you seen 'The Perks of Being a Wallflower'? She was incredible in it. You really seem to think "well, they were just in 'Harry Potter', they must not be that good...", and that's flawed opinion making. I don't want him to be in 'Star Wars', but I'm willing to defend his acting ability. Yes, the series made them, but they can live on after the series, and all three of them have started building a career without it.

Yeah, yeah.... because Im sure we will all be extreme hotties when we are her age and have gone throgh what she has. Does she look bad? Yeah. So do most as they age and their cells oxidize and die off. Just saying.

Did everyone expect her to look like she did in ROTJ which was about...ohhh.... almost 30 years ago.

Its not bad they they got exposure with the Potter stuff. But, It'd be foolish to expect they'd all be in the same place without it. Actually, you nailed my point about them just flying under the radar with the regular, run of the mill films you mentioned. With no Potter, they remain rather in-cognito.

At least we agree that they dont belong in Star Wars. lets leave it at that.
