Probably easier than trying to distribute themselves overseas. I was commenting more on US releases.

The original Prom Night has never had a solid release. I saw an HD print cleaned up really nice at a theater last year and it was phenomenal. When you can see what's going on through the darkness and the fuzzy audio stuff isn't there it is actually great.

And Prom Night II/III are fairly good, they weren't intended to be "Prom Night" films. Prom Night 2 went under a different title, but the company that put it out had the rights to Prom Night, so they slapped Prom Night at the end of the title.

If they hadn't been named "Prom Night" they wouldve been more successful because people wouldn't constantly be comparing them to the original, which was a great entry, imo, in the slasher franchise. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion but the countless fans who ask daily about the film on facebook speaks wonders about its fanbase. Its very popular.

Prom Night 4 is also pretty okay, although its the worst and the only that was purpousfully made as a "Prom Night" film, its a cheap rip-off. Its a cheesy movie but then again weren't most movies from 25+ years ago??

The remake of Prom Night is only good because they retold it as a remake, instead of flat out copying the original. And without the great actors in that one, it would have sucked too.

I love the PROM NIGHT films, and so do countless others, because, even though they all SHOULD suck, something about them saves the day. It has some x-factor that most slasher franchises are searching for... They really deliver, in my opinion...

Just noticed a post on Facebook saying EVERY horror title starting in June will be a part of the Scream Factory family...

It was the response to a post about "Cold Prey 2" not being Blu-Ray...

They also said in an unrelated post that they "still have a lot cooking and need to get a few deals confirmed and signed before they can begin announcing the newer titles"...

Yuck, I thought the remake of Prom Night was atrocious.

But way better than some remakes. I like how they didn't re-do everything from the original. It took the setting and added a new scenario.

I think if people stop subconciously or consiously comparing sequels, prequels, and reboots to the original film, they will enjoy them a lot more and see that they aren't THAT bad. That's just what I think though.

Hope not! Scream Factory is great because of their love for retro horror movies. Their announcement of Dead Souls was a big disappointment!

I'm judging it on its own merits, and I thought it sucked. Hard.

I agree with this. I also like when they just take the premise or setting of the original film for a remake instead of doing an exact clone. What others do you feel were strong remakes in the past 10 yeaers or so? Myself I really liked The Hills Have Eyes, Piranha, I spit on Your Grave, My Bloodly Valentine the most but others were solid too. The Dawn of the Dead remake was really well done too. I did not care for The Crazies remake at all though and that's the one people seem to really like I've noticed.

If you think about it SHOUT is in charge. They've had contemporary and classic horror for years together. This is just a new sub-label. They're still coming from the same company.

With Halloween 2/3, They Live, The Howling, etc we've seen an increase in classic horror - while before there weren't a ton.

This is just them mixing all horror together, I am confident that they can handle it. They're experts. Lol.

thought Texas Chainsaw was fairly good, Michael Bay went downhill after that. Sorority Row was too. I liked the modern spin on it. I have mixed feelings about most remakes though.

You people are crazy. For everything that scream has released and have announced to release, you sure are quick to bite the hand that feeds. Quit expecting every release to be tailored to your specific taste and desires. Contemporary titles like dead souls will likely prove vital in providing funds for the rest of their more niche releases. Dead souls can be marketed to the mass redbox renting crowd, in turn provide for the a-list catalog title buying in brick and mortar crowd, which will in turn provide for the obscure title online purchasing crowd. Stop micro-analyzing every little thing this distributor does and buy what makes you happy and quit *****ing about you disagree with and trying to run the company with your "I know best" attitudes... Leave that for twilight time

Personally, I'm very open to seeing more contemporary titles enter the Scream Factory family. As much as I love the slashers and other horror films from the 70s and 80s, I always remain open-minded to witnessing the latest horror film that will truly win me over. I had never heard of "Dead Souls" before Scream Factory's announcement so I'm actually looking forward to seeing what it's all about. Of course, everyone is entitled to their own opinions about what they feel is right for the Scream Factory line but I do like to see the variety of old and new titles co-existing together.

In addition, I actually do see, from a business perspective, how a newer title like "Dead Souls" could give Scream Factory some added profit from striking up deals with companies like Redbox who would be more prone to carrying the latest new release as opposed to an older catalog title. Whether you're for or against contemporary titles in the line-up, it's worth looking at how a newer title could increase the chances of the Scream Factory line continuing farther into the future and scooping up more desirable titles the next time around.

Cliff most likely dissapeared from this thread because it's annoying as shit to hear nonstop complaints, criticisms and armchair analysis about every little minor thing the company you work for does, from people who have no experience working in, or actual insider knowledge of how the home video industry really operates.

I would have quit coming around, too. He was under no obligation to post here, and after seeing how some of you choose to whine and moan, I wouldn't be surprised if he comes back rarely, if at all.

Be appreciative of all the AMAZING stuff they are doing. It won't hurt, I promise.

If they release a movie you don't want, don't buy it! The label isn't being cheapened. The titles you don't want aren't taking the place of some gem you do want. I'm thankful and thrilled for Scream/Shout, and am happy to wait as long as I need to for announcements and releases. Keep up the great work, Cliff and Co.!

We all like watching new horror but that was'nt what scream was set up for-theres loads of labels that do that.In my opinion Dead souls wont shift that many copies anyway which is probably why the execs are shoehorning it in to scream.
im a big fan of shout/scream and will continue to be but im just giving my opinion not hateing.and as for armchair anaylsis, isnt that what this whole site is?.

You're the first person I've heard that has said they love the Prom Night films.

Most of us may not have industry experience, but we horror fans and we're the ones that are the potential buyers of these releases. Scream Factory are amazing and have released some fantastic movies, but I think its also important that they get all sorts of feedback from us, as its the only way they are going to learn what appeals to the fanbase and what people don't like, so perhaps they can change things.

This is a forum for discussion and people have the right to post, whether it be a complaint or a compliment.
