At the end of the day, one can easily notice a company that cares about their customers.

I hope everyone has a nice day.
Good Lord, I read through that thread a few days back. I do not own any Twilight Time films, although I'm considering buying Rapture pretty soon, but I'm sore at the label for releasing two favorite movies of mine (Journey to the Center of the Earth and Mysterious Island) in limited editions so that true fans like myself are missing out if we started collecting Blu-rays after the fact.

More than anything, though, the faux-emergency status that generates a mad rush to buy certain Twilight Time titles is a red flag.

On Christine...
I'm the biggest Stephen King fan that I know of, I have a thorough collection of all his books, and I love to revisit film adaptations of his stories. I am also an enthusiastic fan of John Carpenter. The adaptation of Christine, however, is a pretty lame movie in my eyes. I did not care much for it when I saw it during the late 1980s, and it looks even worse for age whenever I happen to see it these days.
I am just as susceptible to the pitfalls of nostalgia as the next person, though, and my eyes lit up when I saw the spiffy Blu-ray cover art of Christine and the "limited availability" disclaimer. Fortunately, I remembered that it's....well...it's just not that good of a movie, so I did not jump into the fray.

However...

If the upcoming Twilight Time edition of Walter Hill's The Driver sells out before I have a chance to preorder it, I'm going to kick and punch the floor like a spoiled four year-old child.

Ahhhh...the life of a Blu-ray collector.

I sort of forgot about the Friday announcements, but I'm pumped up!

Hopefully we don't see a Devil's Backbone announcement until next month so it can get #666. Hopefully Criterion does announce The Life Aquatic so everybody can shut up about it.

Also, I can't wait to watch The Blob and Ministry Of Fear today

I feel your pain. You and me are true film fans. I am not going to buy 10 blu rays of the same title and go on ebay to sell them at outrageous prices. The company almost directly admits supporting this system.

The only ones that suffer from all this are the true fans.

I would be very depressed and anxious if Seven Samurai, Seventh Seal, or Crumb was limit blu ray release only that lasted just a few hours (which are of course way better films than Christine).

I am again very grateful for Criterion.

If it wasn't for Criterion, On the Waterfront probably would have went to Twilight Time.

Anyways, I've had The Blob preordered since December and it hasn't shipped yet. I know I'm probably just being impatient, but shouldn't it have shipped by now?

I may agree, especially about ON THE WATERFRONT, particularly about the character played by Karl Malden. It's way overdone, in my opinion.

A lot of Elia Kazan's films want to make a point; his best one, done more subtly, may be STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE. But Kazan isn't as "bad" in that respect as Sam Fuller was in some of his films.

With all this talk of Double Indemnity it brings to mind Chandler. I'm re-reading The Long Goodbye. I love the way Chandler writes dialogue.

Yami just posted in the Artificial Eye (UK) thread that they would be releasing Satyajit Ray's Charluata (1964). Wonder if that is the Ray title we'll be getting if Apu isn't ready in time?

I just picked up The Blob during lunch break. $34 after membership discount, taxes, and all that. Not too shabby for day-of-release. There is a 10% discount sticker already for the disc. It's a beautiful package, and I can't wait to watch it tonight.

Totally unrelated to any of this...

I also picked up the new David Bowie CD, his first in a decade, from Barnes & Noble.

I had been seeing this cover art for the David Bowie album online for quite some time now, but I just assumed that it was a joke or a temporary online-art sort of thing. Turns out that this is actually the real album cover. Pretty funny.
I'm on my first listen right now and am quite impressed.

The new Bowie disc is fanfreakintastic. God I love that guy. We may have the best album of '13 already.

Yes, this one will be battling the new My Bloody Valentine and the new Johnny Marr for the 2013 title.

All the old people are looking strong this year. The new Depeche Mode comes out later this month. Just in time for some spring road trips.

Awesome!!! David Bowie is one of great rock musicians. I also thought the album cover was a joke (Heroes cover blotted out).

The defacing of the "Heroes" cover makes sense in the grand scheme of Bowie's style. This new album is a great throwback to Bowie's late-1970s stuff that he recorded in Berlin with Eno, though.

(David Bowie does star in a couple of Criterion films, so I guess that this is not too far straying from the thread.)

I'm officially set and ready for whenever the next B&N 1/2 off Criterion sale will be! I've got a $200 gift card on stand by and I will be making a serious blind buy haul.

Whaaaaaa! Ordered On the Waterfront on Feb 8th, along with one of today's releases. Delayed shipping until the 3/12 release was available to get "free shipping." Just checked my account at Criterion and saw that the estimated ship date is the 17th!

Did they sell my copy of On the Waterfront during the flash sale?

Edit: I suppose that I can't complain too much, because during the flash sale I asked whether I could add a title to the existing order. They may have misunderstood my question -- maybe they thought I was concerned about the difference in the cost of On the Waterfront -- anyway, they sent me a $10 discount code for a future order. It must be some sort of consolation prize. So -- in movie buyer's logic -- I'm ahead $30, because I didn't spend $20 on another title during the flash sale.

Well because of your guys discussions, PARIS,TEXAS, GOMORRAH. Hands down these sound right down my alley. Possibly The BBS STORY which sounds like a solid set of films. By the sale however, I'll pick up BADLANDS, REPO MAN, THE BLOB, 3:10 TO YUMA, NAKED LUNCH and MEDIUM COOL. I love me some sci fi cheese so perhaps I'll finally pick up ROBINSON CARUSO ON MARS. Of course I'm behind collecting Kurosawa films like RASHOMON and HIGH AND LOW. But then there is the SAMURAI TRILOGY. Oh so many Criterions, so little money. Of these films, I've seen from beginning to end REPO , 3:10, NAKED and SAMURAI.

Well I payed off my JC PENNY'S credit card and then I saw they sold B&N gift cards and the devil on my shoulder said just buy 4 $50 cards and lay off buying some new threads for awhile. I never thought JCP would be supporting my blu habit. Lol
