Teams have had the ability to talk with free agents since Saturday, but the NFL sent out conflicting memos over what is allowed. On Thursday the NFL published this:

Quote:
The “2013 free agency questions and answers” published by the NFL on Thursday plainly state: “Beginning at 12:00 midnight ET on Saturday, March 9 (i.e., after 11:59:59 p.m. ET, on Friday, March 8) and ending at 3:59:59 p.m. ET on Tuesday, March 12, clubs are permitted to contact, and enter into negotiations with, the certified agents of players who will become Unrestricted Free Agents upon the expiration of their 2012 Player Contracts at 4:00 p.m. ET on March 12. However, a contract cannot be executed with a new club until 4:00 p.m. ET on March 12.”
However, on Friday teams were sent this memo which stated:

Quote:
In the next breath, the memo explains that “prior to the beginning of the new League Year it is impermissible for a club to enter into an agreement of any kind, express or implied, oral or written, or promises, undertakings, representations, commitments, inducements, assurances of intent or understandings of any kind concerning the terms or conditions of employment offered to, or to be offered to, any prospective Unrestricted Free Agent for inclusion in a Player Contract after the start of the new League Year.”
So it seems like the NFL is saying teams can talk to players and negotiate but not actually offer a contract, even verbally? It's confusing, but teams have been able to talk with free agents since Saturday.

Looks like Tony Gonzalez is close to making his return official:

Quote:
Jay Glazer ‏@JayGlazer
Tony Gonzalez told me he has officially informed Falcons he is coming back and they are working out a deal now. story on foxsports dot com

"After discussing it with my family and really, truly struggling with this decision I informed the Falcons I would like to return for one more shot," Gonzalez told me.
From what I've heard Gonzalez won't have to go to min-camps and OTAs and will have a very light load in training camp.

Seahawks and 49ers just getting better and better. And to think this was the worst division 2 years ago. Pretty sure AFC West is the worst right now.

In 2010 the NFL West had a combined record of 25-39 with the Seahawks winning the division at 7-9. In 2012 the division went 34-28-2 with two playoff teams.

LOL

Quote:
Kevin Williams can’t name a receiver on the Vikings roster

Vikings running back Adrian Peterson feels like he has been kicked in the stomach after the Percy Harvin trade. Vikings defensive tackle Kevin Williams apparently feels like he has been kicked in the head.

Following the trade of Harvin and the recent release of Michael Jenkins, Williams doesn’t know who else the team has at the receiver position.

“I can’t tell you one receiver that’s on the team right now,” Williams told Bruce Murray and Rich Ganon of SiriusXM NFL Radio. “That is funny. After we lose Percy and Michael, I can’t name one that we have on the roster. So we’re definitely going to have to make some moves in the draft and free agency to try to get us a receiving corps, period.”

The Vikings tried unsuccessfully to get Anquan Boldin on Monday. Now that Harvin is gone and Boldin isn’t coming, it’s safe to say that the Vikings will be targeting one or more big-name free agents from a pool that includes Mike Wallace, Greg Jennings, Wes Welker, and Danny Amendola.

It sounds like the reports of the 49ers having interest in Ed Reed may have been made up to try and generate more interest in Reed:

Quote:
Reed recently hired David Dunn, whose client list includes 49ers G.M. Trent Baalke and 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh. At one point, the relationships seemed to provide a convenient path to get a deal done.

Presently, the thinking is that Dunn hoped that reports and rumors and speculation of San Fran interest in Reed would create a bigger market for the Pro Bowl safety.

So far, it hasn’t worked. Which means that, in the end, Reed could be back in Baltimore.

I expect huge numbers for Wallace. Jeff Ireland's contract is up after this year, he needs to win now, and just couldn't whiff on Wallace. Dolphins also needed to add weapons around Tannehill to see if he's the real deal.

Apparently $13M/year for Wallace, $30M guaranteed. This is where desperation gets you!

Only $1M more than I thought though, no biggie!
