I don't think the store did anything wrong.
I've experienced the same scenario as the customer Terrorfirmer reported: a large stocking of identical product, clearly and prominently labeled with a shelf price that then rings up at more than double the assumed price. I've also seen the staff accuse the customer of wrongdoing by moving the product, and identical to your assertions, claim that the store should bear no responsibility whatsoever.

I guess I would ask you then, which party is responsible for stocking the shelves and keeping them accurate? The customer?

Scenarios like this are part of why SCOP exists. Who knows how many people saw that false sale representation, threw the item into their basket and ended up being grossly overcharged because they didn't notice the higher charge done to their card?

It's why I am now extra careful when shopping at Best Buy/Future Shop. The deals do require a higher level of vigilance and tolerance for the mistakes and issues that arise. They do have some deals but you have to keep your expectations low and your head up.

In full disclosure I should say that I do not represent Future Shop/Best Buy and have no affiliation with them. But not everyone commenting on their deals here can truthfully say that.

So I decided to send an e-mail to futureshop, i re-read a copy of SCOP and it outlines the exact situation i was in, so we'll see what happens.

It wouldn't qualify for SCOP, since the SKUs were likely different. Unless of course the $14.99 SKU is actually the Steelbook SKU.

I do think you were in the right on this one though. Sounds like it was the stores fault since there were 6 copies. Should have at least got an apology.

well we'll see what happens, don't recall anything in SCOP about skus, the average customer doesn't understand skus the product is the product if you see a price tag that says "drive" and you look up and the product says "drive" it would make sense that that is the price of the product, this is why SCOP exists. but yes an apology would have at least been nice instead of an emploee with attitude. futureshop already sent me an e-mail apologizing for the incident and took a bunch of info i had already given them in my first e-mail: name, number, store location, name of employee, standard stuff, so i guess they'll send that info to my FS and i'll see what happens from there.

It might not mention the SKU number, just that the shelf tag and product actually have to be for the same product for SCOP to apply.

It really does get iffy with these films that have multiple copies though. If the shelf tag didn't say steelbook, I think you have a good case.

Perhaps, but it's worth noting there's some who conceal their conflicting interests while they defending a retailer or smearing mud on customer who are only reporting factual events.

To own everything Hitchcock on BR right now you need:

Alfred Hitchcock: The Masterpiece Collection (Universal Pictures - 15 Films - Saboteur, Shadow of a Doubt, Rope, Rear Window, The Trouble with Harry, The Man Who Knew Too Much, Vertigo, North by Northwest, Psycho, The Birds, Marnie, Torn Curtain, Topaz, Frenzy, Family Plots) Only the R1 set includes North by Northwest (which was licensed from WB. Likely in a trade with WB for Spartacus which WB included in their Kubrick box set), you need to get that separately if you purchase the R2 set.

Hitchcock Collection (MGM - Rebecca, Spellbound, Notorious)

To Catch a Thief (Paramount Pictures)

Dial M for Murder (Warner Bros. 3D Release)

Strangers on a Train (Warner Bros.)

The Lady Vanishes (Criterion Collection)

The 39 Steps (Criterion Collection)

There are still a good dozen or so films not yet released also. A lot of his early British films. Mostly from WB but some of his films are also owned by Anchor Bay, Image and in the Public Domain.
Nice comprehensive summary of why someone might still want to get the 3 disc set. I like to hold out a faint hope that there could be a bigger set, but you make a strong case for why it's less likely.

(When you say 'R2 set' I presume you're talking about the region-free 14 movie box sets available from Amazon.co.uk)

FS sure is crafty, Skyfall Blu Ray with slip is now 20 +tax. It changed price just little over a month from release, so no price matching for this gem!

Most stores have forgotten or never knew SCOP is supposed to protect customers from these kind of situations.

SCOP was created to stave off regulation, retailers banded together and promised to behave if the government would allow their continued immunity. SCOP was one way they said they'd police themselves.

Unfortunately over time SCOP is now treated as a loophole, where retailers and fanboys ignore the spirit of SCOP and look for ways to get out of even the smallest consequence of mistreating customers. "AHA! if the 2 point text hidden under the edge of the price card doesn't say SB for steel book, then the giant price and product display with misleading info doesn't matter!"

No I'm sorry, SCOP does not apply here. the steelbook and the regular edition are two different products. If they weren't, then wouldn't he have happily taken the regular edition home for $14.99? Now if I were the cashier or the manager, I probably would have given it to him at that price, just to apologize for the mix up, but I also don't blame them for not doing so.*

*I guess we've come to the point where I have to state that I am not nor ever have been employed by or affiliated with Future Shop/Best Buy.

I somewhat agree and would have dropped the issue if the regular edition had been beside it or even on the same shelf or if it was a single misplaced steelbook, but it wasn't it was six POTC steelbooks with a price tag clearly saying POTC, this is the stores mistake not mine and from what I've gathered this falls under scop, it's not like it was dead mans chest or something under the black pearl, it was the same movie different edition, not my mistake.and I had no reason to disbelieve this was the price for the steel as there were no other copies of it except for the ones I found, and there was no price on the movie itself.
