It was released in theaters last November and yes, I'm just watching it now.

Why do you ask?

The 12th, I think?

Why. Do. You. Ask.

(it's a simple enough question, no?)

Not simple enough, it would seem.

Later.

Even more reason why physical media is dying, those who get movies mailed have to wait for the window to expire before the movie become available. Same with redbox or bb express.

That is why I was asking, I wanted to make sure there was the window after the street date release.

So in your world the fact that I rented the Skyfall BD a couple days ago is evidence that physical media is dying?

You know, now that I think about it, I think I went to Subway that day too. Are they going to be shutting down too?

I hope not, I freaking love that place.

No, you renting it has nothing to do with it dying, you just confirmed that renting (other than video store) from mail or kiosk has a delayed window on it pushed upon by the studios.

Most people don't even know there's a window, though. For collectors, waiting a few days is no big deal. We waited decades for a decent version of Blade Runner, a few weeks for a new films is no big deal.

You consistantly confuse collectors with people who must have the new films as soon as possible. If we were like that, we'd just download everything illegally, which is a clue for you to work out why EST is dead in the water.

Release windows are nothing new in the business. PPV has had a window for years. Now when they release a disc they just have a window where it is only available for purchase with some titles prior to the kiosk rental availability. Really you are grasping at straws. All they are doing now is gauging if they can increase the EST numbers by giving some titles a small window of exclusitivity, basically this is just another type of PPV window.

I think they're even less a consideration now given how short the windows between theatrical premiere and home video release have become.

What are we really talking about...four months vs five months? What's the difference.

And that's not to say they have no effect. There are always going to be impatient consumers and even generally patient consumers aren't completely immune to impulse buying.

But as 'writing on the wall' goes this is definitely pretty weak.

I've menioned it before but it doesn't mean people that rent stuff early won't buy the disc. I rented Berebian Sound Studio as a streamer while it was in the cinema to see if the disc was worth buying or not. It was. I did.

dont' forget that the 28 day window is meant to BOOST sell through sales, not increase streaming

Keep in mind that release windows were almost non existent when DVD was on a street date release. Before DVD, VHS had a very significant release window for rentals and a part of the sale on a rental went to the studio. DVD went away from the studio getting any money from a rental

Now with iTunes etc. the studios are going back to collecting on the rental. Eventually the rental window will get much longer before a blu day is released. Once that happens, physical media is even more doomed. The release window is more important for renting than ever before

Wrong, that apples to an only physical world before streaming came on board. Now it also encourages digital renting. The release window of digital buying before street and then the digital option of renting on iTunes Etc well before redbox or mail options is proof

Digital buying having a window has been true for select titles for at least 2 or 3 years.

Digital Buying still isn't doing anything worth noting.

You are the guy who sifts through a bunch of data searching for anything that supports your theory, systematically throwing out anything that doesn't.

I wish you would show one piece of data that shows the death of physical media that doesn't have a slant on it. Just one.

Most of your "facts" were said by people 7 years ago as proof Blu-Ray would never get anywhere. They were wrong. Why are you right?

*EDIT* Put quotes around facts because in reality you aren't big on real facts, just your interpretation of them.

Why do you post some facts? Mine is opinion and I am not wrong

But here is a fact, iTunes hs finally offered a 1080p alternative to iTunes in 2012. Finally we have a exciting alternative to blu ray and I can fully to recommend it.
