I don't get this Toshiba/Paramount negotiation thing. Since Toshiba threw in the towel wouldn't all contractual obligations become moot? Isn't Paramount free to do whatever they want now?

Not if they want some of the money they've been promised. Toshiba still owes them cash for remaining loyal to the format even until it was dead. Supposedly this has been worked out, but we don't know the full details.

Thanks for all the replies. I will use the search button from now on. The info in your replies, however, is very helpful.

See here's the thing. I can wait for Universal to make an announcement for Blu-ray releases because they are way behind. But Paramount? There is no excuse! I mean they really need to amp up production or at least announce SOMETHING! Even if it is not a release schedule, just what they're intentions of the moment are. Cloverfield better hit Blu-ray by the summertime.

Cloverfield sucked anyway. Way too overrated. They shouldnt have built it up the way they did, maybe then it would have been decent

Yeah, they shouldn't have promoted their film.

I dont mean it like that. They OVER hyped it, by having it as the only trailer during Transformers, not giving it a title until 2 months before it came out, and never giving a clear view of the monster. It made people go to see the monster and see a great movie, and it was sub par. If it was a trailer for like Rush Hour 3, had a title, but still didnt show the monster, would have been a better movie, and people would have stll saw it to see the monster

You built it up to what you wanted it to be.
I built it up to what I wanted to be (and was blown completely away).
No they.

What did you want it to be? An below average monster movie with terrible acting and only seeing the monster once or twice? Godzilla 2000 was better than Cloverfield

Which leads to the equation that perhaps its not by their choice but because of contractual reasons. They have been in the is business how long now? I am sure there is a valid reason which isn't just to piss off blu-ray buyers.

Yeah, these companies arent making their decisions on what the customers want, but what is easiest for them and what will make them the most money
