He played the part of the lady's man / Playboy that uses lies to get woman to have Se..."dance"with him lol. He's just not very convincing as the Wizard to me.
He acts more like a dumb high school jock and less like the classy, suturing yet lovable old man we know as The Wizard of Oz.
Here's a video that talks about it and the film.

Doing what you did still leaves the spoiler in plain view where someone can accidentally see something while scrolling down the page. Spoilers should be completely hidden where people have to take an extra step to see them.

Proper spoiler tags hide the information like this:

[Show spoiler]This is how you're supposed to hide a spoiler

Highlight the spoiler after you've typed it up and click this button:

You can also wrap the spoiler with [ SPOILER ] and [ /SPOILER ] (minus the spaces) and achieve the same outcome.

Enclose the spoiler in bracketed markers with the word spoiler within actual brackets at the beginning and /spoiler in brackets at the end. Or you can highlight the spoiler and click on the blindfolded spoiler icon on the message editor. This hides the spoiler behind a 'spoiler' link which when the reader clicks it, reveals the spoiler. Thus preventing people from accidentally reading a non-hidden spoiler.

Seeing how animated and at times goofy Oz had to be in this film I thought of Jim Carry.
I wanted to jokingly say Robin Williams but that might have turned it into a comedy lol Plus I think he might be a bit to old to play a younger Oz.
I read Disney wanted to go with Robert Downey, Jr. When they couldn't get him they tryed to get Johnny Depp but he wasn't available so they ended up settling for James Franco.

This is the Wiki page where I read it
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oz_the_Great_and_Powerful

I guss they picked James Franco because when poeple think classy timeless characters the guy that played a pothead / Drug dealer in the film "Pineapple Express" pops right into mind lol
I'm just teasing he's a good guy I just don't see him as Oz

That's a good question and I'm not sure. It is such a great and powerful role yet needing an actor who can carry the emotional and humorous bits, there are few actors who could handle it better than Franco. This is why I said he did an admiral job.

I could possibly see Zachary Levi (from the TV series Chuck, Chipmunks 2, Tangled) in the role. Of course there is JGL but we knew that wasn't happening.

For me, Jude Law would have been a better Oz than Franco.

[Show spoiler]My best friend had this to say after we watched the film "originally when Mila Kunis showed up I thought she was witch of the west. But then when Rachel Weisz showed up I thought, no she's wicked witch of the west and Mila Kunis is the witch of the east, who gets the house dropped on her. Because after all she's Meg. Her characters always get screwed over."

I myself enjoyed the film, and that small twist though I think Weisz would have been better as West and she also has more acting pedigree (she's a damn Oscar winner) for that role.

the 3D was awesome and I thought Franco was decent. Love Downey but not sure of him in the role, at least not at his age. Depp maybe.

You do know RDJ is three years younger than Johnny Depp right?

I see that Disney has continued to do what they started to do with the Alice in wonderland movie in 2010 . Will they continue to release all of their big live action movies 3 months after their theatrical release to movie theaters ?

About on par with his performance in Spider-Man 3.

Just saw this and was pleasantly surprised. It's certainly flawed but there were enough good moments in it that it ends up being quite enjoyable. And the special effects were phenomenal. Definitely buying it on Blu-ray.

BTW, I don't remember much about 1985's Return To Oz but weren't there flying monkeys in that version?

I don't think there were flying monkeys in Return to Oz. That one had the Wheelers as the lackeys if I remember right. It has been a while for me too.

Oz the Great and Powerful was greenlit long before John Carter was released in theatres.

Who do you think would of been better for the main roles in Oz: The Great and Powerful ?

I loved it!! Our theater doesn't show movies in 3D, so I have to wait for the BD to come out. Can't wait to watch it in 3D. I thought Mila Kunis did a great job. Much different after seeing her play Jackie for years. Don't know so many say they think she was bad...

I'm tired of hearing Johnny Depp could of done better, uh, no.
I don't mind Depp, but I'm tired of him. Franco was perfect as Oz.
That's my opinion, but Franco is my favorite actor.

No flying monkeys...but there was a flying sofa, lol.
Speaking of which, I WISH they'd release that on blu!!

I didn't say that Johnny Depp could of done better as the role of Oz(Oscaar Diggs). I thought James Franco did perfectly fine playing the role as Oz(Oscar Diggs).
