Default Conversion issue?

By running video through the receiver, will the Onkyo 705 down convert video or will I still get the 1080p image sent from my BD player?

it actually just passes through. No conversion necessary.

Default How about satellite HD signal?

If I run my HD satellite receiver through the Onkyo 705 with HDMI, will I still be able to get the 1080i image? Or should that be sent straight to the TV? Thanks everyone for your answers to all my questions.

Yes, you will still get 1080i from HD sattelite receiver. That is the way I have my DirecTv set up with my Denon Receiver. There are only a few receivers that will convert the 1080i signal to 1080p through the HDMI cable. The super expensive Denon receiver is one them.

Your original question about connecting 6 analog cables for audio. The only problem with that is you either need to perform Bass Management (setting speakers to large, small, etc.) in the player or your receiver must have the ability to handle analog signals for bass management. Even if the receiver does it, it will probably convert the signals to digital and back to analog. Everytime you convert a signal from analog to digital and back to analog, you may end up with degraded audio signal.

Read my thread on " A Guide to Home Theater Audio CODECs". It helps you with cable connections for each audio CODEC.

The Onkyo receivers do not affect HDMI signals in any way other than to not send the audio to the HDMI out (unless you choose to). Anything input HDMI is passed straight through. What goes in, goes out.

Don't worry about it. if your AV Receiver has HDMI, it will pass through (and some even upconvert) the signal so that it looks identical to the source. The receiver will let you choose the source you want to watch, and control the sound.
Source (PS3/cable/sat) --> AV Receiver (via HDMI) --> HDTV (via HDMI)

I had my HD cable box going to my tv with component. I hooked up my new 705 today and now it's cable box-hdmi-705-hdmi-tv and my HD cable looks better than before
