I've watched half of the director's cut now, and IMO it looks quite good (on my 46" LED TV). I'm quite pleased with this release, although it is missing the audio commentary so I'll be keeping the UK Blu-ray as well.

Trying to decide if this is the version that I pull the trigger on. I'll wait until I find out for sure that the German version is Region-B locked.

According to Michael (on Cinefacts forum) who works for Koch! The German & French Dir Cut are identical, Apparently Filmedia & Koch worked together on it.

Supposed it's just down to the encoding.

Considering that the Director's Cut is the only version on the German single (and that may be region-locked), this French edition is looking really good to me as an importer from US.

Everybody pleased with this one?

So this works for Region A? Can you post a picture of the back cover? I'm curious. Thanks, Behemot.

Hence why I'm still waiting on the German single disc release of the Dir's Cut. Should hopefully have a lot less compression.

Are the German discs BD-50s or BD-25s?

This is what I'm wondering as well. All I'm interested in is obtaining the MGM DC print in HD, so I'll purchase whichever is best and/or region-free.

I can't post a picture at the moment, unfortunately, but I think the back cover has a Region B symbol on it. However, it played fine in my Region A locked Toshiba BD player, so I assume it will work in other Region A players as well. I did not notice any 50Hz content either.

This is great news! I'm just waiting to get a second opinion. Not that I don't trust you Behemot, but I don't want to plop down the cash if I end up with a disc that won't play on my PS3.

you clearly have NOT seen the UK BD of this, what DNR or EE on that transfer?
please explain as i watched it on a 90" screen ISF calibrated to perfection!
i'll say it again...the UK BD (theatricall)is head and shoulders above anny release so far PQ and AQ wise.
what people dont seem to know is that the DC is actually there eventough it is not listed but in standard quality!
i would love to have the DC but only if it comes in really high quality, not the rubbish they released so far, untill then i am verry happy with my UK thetaricall BD!

Based on the screencaps that I've seen around, this BD looks really good. Of course, I can't compare it in motion to the UK, but certainly better than the US.

I'd just like to find out as soon as possible, whether the German BD of the DC is going to be Region-free or not, so I can get this thing ordered!

I would like to have the European cut. I've never seen it before. Also, if the German BD is a BD-25 (like I've heard on other forums), then the bitrate isn't going to be better than the French release.

People may wonder why bother importing this release. However, I know that Universal will never release a new BD of this title. They seem to really hate it.

Yes, I'm only interested in the DC, which is why I'd rather wait for the German standalone release (so long as it's region-free) as I don't want to have to pay more for a couple other versions of the film I'm never going to watch...and yes, I agree about Universal not releasing it here in the USA, but even if they wanted to, I'm guessing there could be a costly rights issue regarding using the MGM print.

My copy should arrive in a couple of days. Too bad there is no audio commentary, so I'll have to keep the HK DVD.

smp, are you Region B or Region A. If you are Region A, you'll have to let us all know that this is truly safe to purchase!

I own a region switchable player. I will check the disc for region lock/50hz content.
