Some I don't mind since most the TV shows I get are still on dvd. I prefer blu-ray but don't mind watching on dvd. VHS on the other hand I can't stand.
Also can't stand to watch an old tube tv or use an old fat monitor. I'm the type that watching like 6 hours of tv a day and on the computer most of that also. I house sat for someone out of town who had both and beside attempting to use the old electronics for less than 15 minutes I didn't turn it on again for the whole week. I actually went... outside. |

I broke down and bought the Terminal on DVD at a lockbuster closing for $1.99. The worst about that movie is Catherine Zeta-Jones character. I've had delays and spent long enough in international terminals that I've felt like Hnks' character.

some of these have become verry valuable as these represent the "best" you can view them(DVD) image entertainment used to bring out the mayority of these under "the wade williams collection" and NOT one of these has made it onto blu yet! sci-fi like "robot monster"...."the brain from planet arous"..."invasion of the saucer men" to name just 3.... i for one will take good care of these dvd's,and with a good BD player the scaling works just great! i jsut dont understand why studios dont release top sci-fi like "war of the worlds".. "this island earth"...sigh... |

I too of course prefer bluray, but many of my classic films the copyrights have expired and companies haven't opted to renew them let alone even fathom a bluray release.
Not ultra specific categories either. The 1940 Northwest Passage with Spencer Tracy is one, 1951 Vengeance Valley, Rope of Sand starring Burt Lancaster is another. Dam shame |

I fully agree with the OP.
Ever since upgrading I barely watch DVD's anymore unless it's movies or TV shows that haven't been released yet on the format or never will be due to source limitations, for example a lot of the old BBC TV Shows that were filmed on videotape which are limited to SD. I do though keep DVD's of movies that exist on BD if the DVD's have different versions of the movies that are just as good as the versions released on BD or are actually even better such as Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Star Wars OT etc. |

I still have nearly 500 DVDs and continue to watch many things that way. I haven't gotten crazy with Blu-ray, and have saved it mostly either for newer films, since they are generally shot now with Blu in mind and thus look/sound fantastic, or special older films that have been remastered very nicely for Blu and actually are an improvement over the DVD. Otherwise, I'm fine still watching a lot of stuff on DVD.

I do what I have to do to see the movie I want, so if something is only available on DvD then I'm cool with it.
I'll tell you what has REALLY made me a blu-ray snob though...VUDU. I have been seriously considering VUDU as a viable option to some of my dvds and even some blu-ray releases and then when I went into the "other information" section I see that most releases have much simpler audio tracks than their dvd or (especially) blu-ray counterparts. I wouldn't want a VUDU movie in hi-def with a stereo track when I can get the movie on dvd with AT LEAST a dolby digital surround track. I dunno...I'm ranting. Anyway...yeah...dvd is okay with me. ![]() |

Yes, I am an unapologetic Blu snob, and don't care who knows it
![]() ![]() 1) You only buy Blu's. And, if you see a regular DVD selling for $8 or more, you think to yourself, "What a rip off!" 2) If you see a regular DVD TV series selling for $15 or over, you think to yourself, "What a rip off!" ![]() 3) You can't stand to watch DVD's - and, if a movie isn't on Blu, you just don't see it. 4) When you talk to someone & they tell you they don't have a Blu player yet, you may not say anything, but inwardly you are thinking, "Why not?!" 5) You give away all of your DVD's, even if you haven't replaced them with Blu's yet. 6) You think of DVD's as antiques. 7) After you got your first DVD player & made the transition to the format, you were referred to by others as a "DVD snob", and showed contempt for inferior home video formats. This is the first step on the road to later becoming a Blu snob ![]() 8) You think of DVD packaging as bulky & taking up too much room. You think of Blu packaging as slick & streamlined. In all seriousness, however, I do have a lot of DVD's & do still watch them - I won't replace all of my DVD's with Blu's, even if everything I had came out on Blu - it would be prohibitively expensive; plus, I still have some DVD's that I consider collector's items, i.e. the Gold Box Twin Peaks set (2007). That being said, I only really buy new films/TV series on Blu these days....That also being said, there are some regular DVD's out there that don't look bad on an large HD set...however, IMHO these are somewhat few & far between.... Agree 100%. I got my first DVD player in 2003 & was watching them on a small CRT set - at that time, I thought they were the best thing since sliced bread. However, many regular DVD's look terrible on an HD set due to the larger screen/enhanced PQ... Last edited by AnamorphicWidescreen; 05-29-2014 at 05:36 PM. |
