My biggest issue with the region free BD player was the fact that you are paying $200 for a modded $80 player. If the price was just a little more I would understand, but for it to be 2-3 times the price of a regular one is crazy.
Those modded players are such a ripoff. You can buy a Seiko player for 60 bucks, the hack to make them region free is simple. (For those in Region B wanting a Region A capable player, Seiki players are dual voltage, 110/220v, 60/50Hz.)

With the player on, press "set up" on the remote. Then punch in 8520 on the remote and a menu will pop up. They'll be a box at the bottom right for the region coding of dvds and another for blu-rays. With the remote, punch in 0 for dvd. This will make it region free. For blu-rays, punch in 1 for region A, 2 for region B and 4 for region C.

Once you're done, press set up. That simple. As already mentioned, you'll have to change the region coding for blu-rays everytime you change over.

Thanks a lot Duke. I may have to go this route until I can afford the Oppo.

They even have it in stock at the KoP mall which is right around the corner from my work. May have to swing in there on lunch or on the way home.

I also told Zavvi not to reprint OOP and OOS steelbooks, they replied:

Comments noted blurayisnice will certainly take that into consideration and make sure it doesn't happen. Kieran

They can say all they want but that fact of the matter is if they can make money off of it they will re-print it. Maybe with different art like Star Trek but non the less they will make it.

I was hoping for IM 1 and 2, but at this point I would hold out in hopes of a nice IM trilogy steel sometime in the fall.

To the re-releases or the trilogy steelbook? I think the trilogy SB could be epic if done right.

Either! I don't have any SB versions of the Phase 1 Avengers movies. Let them re-do Captain America and Thor while there at it! I've got the Cinematic Phase 1 Case on pre-order and I do already own all the movies....but try and stop me triple dipping if these all became available again!

I am with you since I buy these to watch and have a nice case...not to keep on a shelf sealed simply for display purposes. Collectors on the other hand...

the reason why he told them not reprint is because collectors DONT like when things get reprinted once they have gone oos/oop. lets just say zavvi decides to reprint the exact same thor steelbook that has been released but at £12 then all the people who paid ridiculous amounts, their steelbook would be worth nothing. there are people on ebay who pay £100 for a sealed copy of thor and thats not even one of the rarest steelbooks around.

people like holding onto things knowing they are limited/worth alot/not avaible anymore. i personally am not bothered if someone decides to reprint stuff but alot of people will become extremely angry because of it.

im pretty sure though, someone in the not to distant future will come along and reprint some OOS OOP rare steelbooks just to make huge profits of it

I understand that but it seems quite petty to not want anyone else to enjoy a product. I really want the Thor steelbook but I'm not going to pay over £100 for a film. Some people do and that's fine but I will hope that they decide to reprint these films and let other people buy them. It may sound selfish of me to say that I don't care how much someones collection is worth. I would never buy something to keep sealed up because of it's potential value. I like the look of steelbooks and would never buy one for a film I don't like or will never watch. That's just me of course.

do not quite get your point.

I am a collector. but I do not mind at all if rare steel that i have is re-printed. i have the steel/digibook because i love the film. not because it's rare.

if one is real movie collector, because of the film - i don't see them minding of re-relase.

if one is scalper looking to make profit - i see them getting up set.

and this obscure stuff of us talking about 'people' and 'collectors' is weird. who are these people you refer to ? and how do you know their opinions ?

It's definitely not just you but that diea can get lost amongst the more militant or obsessive steelbook collectors on here. It can be argued that someone not wanting other people to be able to get a (reprinted) copy because they either spent a lot to acquire their copy or because they simply want their precious limited edition to stay limited is "selfish". In fact, I'd argue that viewpoint is more "selfish" than yours.*

Personally, I agree with you - I have the original Play.com steelbook which for a long time was one of the must-haves with collectors - limited, OOP, etc. Do I care at all that Zavvi reprinted a run with the same artwork? Not at all. Not one bit. I have the steelbook I want, others have the steelbook they want. It's all good. I lost nothing by 4,000 other people being able to get hold of one. I have the Thor steelbook too, and the Play.com Iron Men ones (and a good few other OOP titles) - I don't care at all if they get reprinted. As long as I have my copy then that's all that matters to me.
