What's the opening to that film again? I honestly can't remember.

I haven't seen License to Kill in a while, but I find it hard to accept that Nolan's scene is that direct a descendent of it - especially when you take two bank heists that have nothing in common other than being bank heists and try to claim they're related.

Nolan is a self-professed Bond fan and I believe has stated that the snow sequences in Inception were inspired by On Her Majesty's Secret Service so it's not inconceivable that he would look to another Bond stunt sequence for inspiration.

I made the Heat connection because a lot of people have noticed The Dark Knight's similarities to that film but you're right, the bank heists are noticeably different.

Also, "Licence" is the British way of spelling the title and since it was made in England, it's also the official spelling.

You are absolutely correct about "Licence". I need to send my spell-checker to Oxford.

heh it's okay. Did you know that the original title was "Licence Revoked" but it was changed because they thought people were too stupid to know what "revoked" meant? (Maybe they were right, I dunno.)

The bank heist opening isn't what people (smart people, anyway ) are referring to when they say THE DARK KNIGHT has a lot of HEAT in it. It's more tonally, but also the way the two leads are handled and the general feeling of a heightened reality.

And even Nolan has said that he looked to HEAT for inspiration on that movie.

Well that's because Heat is one of the greatest heist films of all time!

Also for all the Nolan/DK fans that were bitter TDKR was shutout in this year's Oscars...fear not Daniel Tosh is your side, definitely watch the whole thing, or batman is mention at the 9:06 mark:

There is definitely major Heat influence on ALL of TDK, not just the bank scene. Didnt Nolan talk about this himself, referring directly to Michael Man and Heat? I could swear I remember that from an interview with him.

All of those shots where there isnt much sound, Batman on Sears tower, standing on the ruble after Rachael's death, Joker hanging out of cop car, Harvey screaming and pulling off the bandages with no sound, all of that is stuff that Michael Man likes to do. Nolan obviously saw Heat at some point after Begins and got ideas that were born from that. All those quiet shots. None of that was in Begins at all, and it wasnt in Rises at all either, so that makes TDK feel like some sort of superhero love child of Heat.

The bank robbery is just icing on the cake, but isnt even the main thing that reminds me of Heat. Like I said its all those quiet Michael Man style shots that he loves to do, that Nolan never did before TDK, or after.

I'm sure Nolan saw Heat well before he made Batman Begins. But TDK is really his take on a crime drama within the superhero genre...hence the obvious influence of Heat (including the casting of William Fitchner). Despite forming a cohesive trilogy, each film plays around in different genres. Begins is a pretty straightforward origin film modeled after Superman: The Movie, TDK is a crime drama, TDKR is a terrorist plot/disaster film.

Maybe that's one reason why I like The Dark Knight the most: I'm a big fan of crime dramas.

It's certainly one of the qualities that make TDK my favorite of the lot, as well. The double-punch of Batman's two greatest adversaries (Joker and Two-Face) certainly doesn't hurt the film, either.

Agreed! Joker and Two-Face are my favorite Batman villains as well.

A friend of mine said I was lucky that my favorites were included in a great Batman movie. He said his are Clayface and the Riddler. My response? "You're probably gonna have to wait a long time before those two pair up." lol

As a team-up, it would at least make more sense than Mr. Freeze and Poison Ivy...the most baffling pairing in supervillain history.

And while I hope for the best in future Batfilms, I have the distinct feeling that no matter how good any future outings may be, TDK may be impossible to replace as my favorite, because of my love for The Joker and Two-Face, and the thrill of seeing great characterizations of both in the same film. For what it's worth, as much as I love Heath's Joker, I think the hype over his performance unfairly overshadows what Aaron Eckhart brought to the film. The whole story arc really rests on Harvey Dent's shoulders, and Eckhart plays every facet of the character to perfection.

The one thing that's odd about TDK being my favorite, though, is that it's really the only film in the Nolan trilogy that isn't primarily about Bruce Wayne. After the very villain-centric films of the previous series, one of the things I loved about Begins was how much it was Bruce's story. And TDKR is very much the same way. But TDK is really all about Harvey. And considering how thrilled I was to actually see Bruce take center stage in Batman films, it's ironic that my favorite of the trilogy is the one that is centered on someone else.

I found another unforgivably glaring plot hole! When Bane is playing to the crowd , he takes a giant mic off a back judge!!! Are you kidding me?!?!?! First of all, the head referee wears the mic. Secondly, they're nowhere near that big or even that style!!! That totally discredits the entire movie. What junk.

Also, while the character of Harvey Dent was definitely a major player in TDK, I definitely wouldn't say he was the main center piece. If you're going to go that far, then you might as well say the Joker was seeing as how he was placing and moving all the pieces. But in the end, it was Batman who was made to do with the pieces as he had to do. He worked with what he had and that was taking the blame for what Harvey did.

P.S., I had to dig for this thread and it was a headache.
P.P.S. I was being sarcastic with my first thoughts of this post. I love this movie!!!

You're thinking of the NFL...that was the GFL(Gotham Football League). They use different audio equipment!

As per WB's press release for 2013, it's due in late Q3 or early Q4, I can't remember which. I know the picture is floating around several threads.
I'm sure we'll be getting an annoucement in the next 1-2 months.

If you haven't seen this, I'd follow the official thread:

Awesome! I'll follow this thread for sure

Rest assured, unless they provide more special features (not just physical extras) i'll probably just go with the current trilogy set...
