It still sells well nearly 3 years after release. #87 in Blu-ray Sci-Fi on Amazon best seller list today.

That's cos of the extras, the popularity of the film and the ignorant people out there who have there HDTVs torched on vivid mode who think the UHE looks prostein. They don't know what film is meant to look like let alone Predator.

I have no idea why Fox is doing a 3D realease of this movie, this is quite puzzeling, this has no business being released in 3D

Yeah, I would be surprised if the 3D version was not sourced from the 2D UHE.

I watched my copy of the UHE a few weeks back, and I honestly don't think it looks THAT bad... I know I'm alone on that one though.

Some scenes look great but yes, there are some scenes that look downright awful. It's a mixed bag for sure, but it's mostly pretty decent IMO.

You're not alone. I agree some scenes look very good, while some scenes suffered from too much manipulation....but people will lash out, as it's their only recourse.

What's wrong with wanting a DNR-free transfer?

Nothing, it already exists in the 2008 version. Fans cried about the heavy grain, Fox took action and went a little overboard on the UHE, fans cried again. As I said maybe in 4 years for the 30th annivesary, Fox will revisit.

I'm just glad I haven't given Fox any of my money for either Blu-ray release.

That's called voting with your wallet, and making your choice. Can't argue that. Me, I know that life is way too short to be waging these, IMO, inane fights with studio: Predator, Star Wars, etc.
Yes I'd love to have every release exactly how I would like it, but I know that's a foolish pipedream. So I try to find a happy middle ground...and in the case of Predator I have done just that. I've got both discs and am very happy with little 2-disc set I've made. Knowing that I can enjoy this movie whenever I want. IF Fox decides to do another release, well I'll definitely cross that bridge when, and most importantly - IF I come to it.

It doesn't? Why not? What are the rules and criteria for releasing a movie in 3-D?

Reasonable enough. I guess I don't love Predator and the original Star Wars trilogy enough to buy a Blu-ray release I'm not happy with.

Yeah, there's really no difference in plucking down $15 to see something at the theater that you end up hating. Going to the movie theater is the ultimate "blind buy", but it's funny how many people have no problem with that but DO have a problem blind buying a blu-ray for the same price. It's all money spent.

The first release of Predator looks pretty good, very much like it should aside from some digital noice. Any new faithful remaster would look relatively similar, which would still make people complain.

Man, I wish Predator 3D was released in theaters first. It would be a ball seeing that in IMAX 3D.

Doubtful. They plan to spend as little money as possible on the Predator conversion which is why they are using the JVC VideoTek automated process that was used for I, Robot. There are no plans for a theatrical release, probably because they don't want in incur the promotional marketing costs.

Length for sure, but imagery - I don't know. One thing Titanic did have going for it were walls. Lots and lots of walls. A lot simpler than leaves and trees IMO (if you're doing a "proper" conversion job).

Titanic did have a ton of people though, I've heard that is the worst. Nothing like a couple hundred objects that aren't stationary. Blech.

Final verdict: I wouldn't want to convert either film! They can do it, I'll give them my money. That's a good trade heh!
