Which reciever do you guys use with your PS3?
Is it an HDMI receiver? Do you guys get LPCM sound in games? (not sure if PS3 games even use LPCM). Can you guys use LPMC surround sound for BD-movies, with your current receiver? What do you like and what do you dislike of your current receiver? I am asking because I am planning to buy a new reciever. Thanks |

I'm using the HDMI into an HDMI switcher then straight to my display. My audio just runs the Toslink to a Cambridge Audio receiver. But... even with the "lesser" audio connection, I still hear a difference in quality in terms of separation, steeering and most of all, voices are more discernable than that of the SD versions running Toslink or Coax.

I use an Onkyo 804. Works so far for everything I've used it for. Also upconverts all signals to digital and outputs them on the HDMI out.

You can set up the PS3 for HDMI output for both video and sound, and you can use any HDMI cable, as far as I can tell; there's no proprietary wackiness. If your HDTV does not have HDMI inputs, you can use component (AKA RGB) cables for HD; component will also work on a standard definition TV that has the three red, green, and blue inputs on the back. Otherwise, you can use composite cables (y'know, the same red, white, and yellow cables that have come with every PlayStation since the beginning) that come with the system out of the box.

I have an Onkyo no HDMI. I have HDMI straight to my display and Toslink to the receiver.
I'm going to be getting a Denon 2307/887 once funds permit. |

My current AVR does not have HDMI either, but I don't hook my PS3 up to it either, it goes straight to my TV for now. I am going to get a pioneer elite AVR once I recover from my TV purchase.

I just ordered the Yamaha RX-V661. Should be here this week. Gonna be hooking it up with 7.1 and yes it will be LPCM.
HDMI 1080p. I don't know what I like or dislike since I don't have it yet, but I certainly like the price- got it for just under $400. |

But if I would buy a receiver right now, my choice would be the RX-V661 as well. |

My set up is kind of like DavePS3's, with one exception, my optic DOES go through the switch. Well, that and it all feeds a yamaha reciever. I can't recall the model number off the top of my head, but its 6 years old and still holds its own...
I can't say enough good things about Yamaha electronics, the best in my opinion since the original Carver ![]() |

I use a Denon AVR 2307. Everything is routed through my receiver and out to the TV using a single HDMI cable. LPCM from movies sounds great and the only game I have that uses LPCM is Resistance, their could be others, but since the PS3 is doing the decoding, it shows everything I play as LPCM.

I have an HDMI direct-to-TV setup too (although it has to go through a HDMI-to-DVI connector first), w/ toslink to a Yamaha 5.1 setup (not great, but like others the sound quality IS markedly better than standard DVD). someday (someday, someway) I hope to pick up a Denon (or Marantz) at a decent price that handles HDMI 1.3 and LPCM and all that stuff. I think these are the standards the industry will be using for a while, so I would consider those features as "future proof" as you could get (at least until they come out w/Ultra High def 3D an' I gotta do it all over again

I'm using a Sony STR DG 1000. Figured I needed a HDMI avr to play PCM BDs to get the most out of my PS3. I got it at a pretty good price ($450) so I decided to get it after some research on the net. I'm happy with it.

Read the sig line.
It has 3 HDMI inputs. I don't like the fact that it can't decode DTS HD MA audio (no HDMI 1.3). I like that it has a very advanced GUI, it can play music from just about any usb device, and it upconverts any analog signal up to 1080p. The sound is marvelous. |

I have the Yamaha RX-V2700 and it works awsome. I was considering also the Denon 4306, which is the only one comparable competitor, but is considerably more expencive. But also might be slightly better in the sound area.
I am using it on a 40" Samsung Full HD LCD and its perfect. For the sound, the recivers displays MPCM. Anyways, you dont need HDMI 1.3 to have Dobly TrueHD, just need a player or reciever that can decode it (it can pass through HDMI 1.2 and I think even on 1.1) thanks and have fun looking for one |
