A question about your cover: did you make the TT yourself, or acquire it from somewhere? There are a couple examples on Customaniacs (where I got a number of usable resources) but they unfortunately don't match the poster/VHS TT at all.

I grabbed it from the British Quad poster of which I have a 3000 x 2255 pixel version. Since it had a solid color background it was easy to use the magic eraser to get a transparent background.

I'm repeatedly disappointed in customaniacs resource section for that very reason. I tried over there first for a Jewel of the Nile TT initially and eventually had to create my own TT since nobody had the original TT. I actually worked one with every word on a separate layer so I could manipulate that "Nile" swirl at will.

You can print them at home, and a lot of people consider HP brochure paper to work best.

More or less. Its weight and glossiness is very similar. I've printed out a handful of covers on it and am perfectly satisfied with the results.

Very cool! Suggestion, I would try and move the lower half of the back image up, so the image is above all the technical blurb, then shrink the Dragon image down and just use a Clone tool to replicate the new background that would get removed when you shrink the dragon.

Just finished Thor in this series, which will contain Iron Man 1 & 2, Incredible Hulk, Captain America and The Avengers. Again, my client intends to share these when they are all done.



I am having a lot of fun making these. I was contacted by the firm behind the original Reel Heroes designs, Hixville, who implied sinister motives and lack of creativity behind these lookalike covers, but that in no way diminishes my enjoyment.

But seriously, they were more concerned about the existence of custom covers in the first place, and wanted to know what Hubunkey's motives were in wanting to share these with all and sundry. I told them that no sinister motives should be implied, that custom covers are a form of fan-art.

On the other hand, I got an email from a person working for John Badham yesterday, who asked for a copy of my Saturday Night Fever cover because he wanted to show it to the veteran director. He said "John is a big fan of such fan pieces and I'm sure he will love this. I will let you know his response." Is that cool or what?!
Between this and Albert Pyun using my cover for his Director's Cut of Captain America, I'm getting all star-struck!
