What it reflects is that gamers (GameStop customers) are not anticipating the next best mobile or alternative gaming device, they are are anticipating the next best gaming console. I. e., mobile gaming on phones, tablets, etc., is not an imminent threat to console gaming.

1.) Between the Wii, PS3,and 360 around 250 MILLION consoles have been sold this generation! That's the most total consoles sold EVER in any generation! How many tablets have been sold?? 2.) Home consoles go in cycles! This generation has run almost 3 years beyond the normal cycle of console generations and the truth is, consoles from this generation have reached critical mass. The market is saturated and pretty much everyone that wants a console HAS one! If you ask me, tablet panic is exactly why Nintendo thought it was a good idea to design that ridiculous controller/tablet for the Wii U that does not perform particularly well as a controller OR a tablet! |

Ironically, I'd say if they're a threat to anything, it's handheld gaming that's taking the biggest hit from the mobile market.
