It can work.

I can envisage a post-credits scene for Iron Man 3 where he wakes up in space (taking a big lump on the head somewhere along the way), hearing some voices (but not showing who is saying them), seeing Stark opening his eyes all woozy-like, shaking his head, and saying something like, "Holy crap, did I just see a raccoon talk to me?"

I was like "Who the fu** is Rocket Raccoon?" and I didn't take him seriously when I looked him up. Then I saw him in Marvel Vs. Capcom 3. I was educated that he's one of the most awesome character Marvel has ever created.

that's b/c of who's making it!! up to this point.....Marvel has earned a free pass w/me!!

i'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt when it comes to their projects now.

i'll even be forgiving if this doesn't turn out to be awesome......which i don't think will happen anyway.

Michael Rooker, who was fantastic on his now-completed run on AMC’s The Walking Dead, has been cast as one of the four founding superheroes of Guardians Of The Galaxy, the Marvel Studios pic that James Gunn is helming. He will play Yondu, who in Marvel lore was a game hunter of a primitive tribe native to Centauri IV, the first planet system to be colonized outside of the Sun’s solar system. He eventually bands together with fellow fugitives to form the superhero team. Chris Pratt already has been cast, and Disney plans an August 1, 2014 release date. Rooker, whose film credits include Mississippi Burning, Days of Thunder, JFK, Tombstone and Jumper, is repped by Kritzer Levine Wilkins Griffin Nilon Entertainment.

I was hoping when I saw the headline on another site earlier that it was for Rocket Racoon. Happy to see Rooker hook back up with Gunn for a third time. This movie keeps looking better and better.

not a fan of Zoe Saldana i dont feel like she deserves the roles she gets (acting chops) but gets the roles because she's the cookie cutter go to piece
not to say she's bad in her roles it just feels like the casting director goes "eh good enough" instead of scouting for someone perfect for the role

as for Rooker, awesome he's a great actor but he's going to need to take some HGH and work it imo

Since Michael Rooker has been campaigning for the role of Rocket Raccoon from the first announcement, I wonder if this casting choice is actually disinformation or possibly just a minor supporting role to keep his actual main role as Rocket a surprise until closer to release. Especially since it's a surprise that they are going to any of the classic GotG members in this. Especially since Marvel's forgotten about them for the most part.

Rooker's casting as Yondu was a bit of surprise. Didn't Feige say at comic-con last year that the team would be Star-Lord, Drax the Destroyer, Gamora, Groot, and Rocket Raccoon?

Wonder what they are going to do with this...intriguing.
