Four more engineering classes until I start to consider film schools. Now, how do I safeguard my collection (especially my Criterion Collection) if I choose to stay in a dorm?

Since declaring my sophomore year as a Criminology and Criminal Justice major, I have been taking all of the required Sociology courses that were required. The curriculum is broken down into major requirements (I'm missing 2/6), two courses on issues of inequality (took both), and two additional courses (took two).

Since not all of the courses are available at the times that I want, I have been taking filler courses (which I hope count as electives - I'm honestly not sure, but I'm sure they do. Why would they make me take a course and not have it count for something?) for the past two or three semesters. So for this next semester (Fall '13 aka my senior year), I'm just taking courses that I think are interesting. I may just finish up my Sociology (C & CJ) major and then double major or minor in Film. Who knows.

I can't even imagine what they are going to have us watch lol. I'll keep you guys updated along the way, though.

Take Soviet history then.

I majored in History (actually, I took enough history classes to major in history twice), with a minor in English. I then did a Masters in Library Science, and have been out of school for 5 years now. I miss it. I don't miss not making money though.

You'd be taking your collection with you? I didn't take any of mine with me...would be a pain to do so. (well, unless if you're going to be too far away)

Get a private room. I had a roommate for a month, and they switched me to a single after the paramedics came at 3am because she drank herself into a coma. I'm not against alcohol consumption, but do it so that you don't almost kill yourself?.Also, she used to go to class and leave the dorm wide open with strangers in there, and broke my coffee machine. There were a few other issues too.

I really don't have much luck with roommates do I? I suppose she was a better roommate than the mice, because she never shat in my food.

Can you still get the clear plastic case from Criterion? I like the look of the cardboard better because of the embossed letters, but if it come in bad shape, you can change cases.

I actually don't want LOTR in the collection, but your Hobbit comment made me think we'd get a whole slew of people demanding it. As per the Meme, this is what I'd want:

One, Two Three,
The World of Henry Orient
After the Fox
Lord Love a Duck

They already gave me the Monkees, so I'm not as spammy about films as others are.

Oh that actually sounds interesting. I'll look into it and see if they offer it. Thanks!

I wouldn't leave them out, then...that probably won't happen honestly but if you're worried about it, it'll help.

Good advice. Doubly so, because I don't want to become an alcoholic

You should absolutely get a roommate then. Drinking alone is one of the warning signs of alcoholism. If somebody's always there you can't become an alcoholic.

Well I'm not sure if anyone really wants to be an alcoholic.

I haven't seen that film but I take it you're a big fan and it's worthwhile.

I took it in 3rd year. We basically focused on from mid-Stalin to right before the collapse. You could easily write about the Soviet counterculture, and why it was far more successful than he Western one. The suits took over ours, and mass marketed it back, while the Soviets kept trying to squash it, and caused it to flourish even more. You could also look at censorship of the arts, and write about Ivan the Terrible, the film that is.

Another course I really enjoyed, which probably isn't offered where you go to school was my Cold War Canada course. We focused more on the rise of suburbia and the cultural aspects, rather than the political aspects of the era.

Tudor history's fun. It's much more interesting than that Philippa Gregory bullshit and the Tudors TV series. There's really no need to change and tart up Henry VIII's court, it was more than scandalous enough IRL.

Also, I enjoyed my intro Non-Western history classes too.

For English, I took the following interesting ones:
Tolkien, where we compared LOTR to Beowulf and the Volsung Sagas
Arthurian Legend
20th Century British culture and fiction

Decisions, decisions. To drink or not to drink...I gues I may become an alcoholic if Criterion doesn't release The Lost Weekend. At least I won't become a sex addict, I'll have In the Realm of the Senses to remind me of the dangers.

I think it was too late for the ex-roomie. She was also underage at the time (only a few months short of 19), and basically went to the Academic Board and tried to lie about it, by saying she was a diabetic and fell into a coma. She wasn't all that bright.

That's what campus bars and movie nights with friends are for. You don't have to drink alone in your room if you don't have roommates. You can leave your room, and invite people over.

I highly recommend it, especially if you're indifferent to "Classic DePalma." It's so meta, it would make Kiarostami blush.
