Let us know what you think about Le Doulos. That's one cool flick, even by Melville standards. Le Doulos and Le Deuxième Souffle are such a great pair of Criterion DVDs, and, if they are upgraded to Blu-ray someday, I hope that Criterion keeps the same cover art for both.
Thank you! I will definitely watch Le Doulos and purchase Le Deuxieme Souffle in the not-so-distant future.

It was my third time seeing Green Day (second time in the past four days) and it was one of the best shows I've ever been to.

IScottie,

You should also pick up Alain Corneau's remake of Le Deuxieme.... Remakes, and especially remakes of classic films, are very rarely good, but in this case I actually think that the remake is a better film...as sacrilegious as it may sound.

The cinematography is simply incredible. The entire film is shot with a lush yellow and brown filter. The cast, led by Daniel Auteuil, is also fantastic. (Monica's outfits are also the very definition of style).

Above all, however, the film has a superb soundtrack. It is hands-down the best one I've heard in over 15 years, and I pay close attention to these things Courtesy of French composer Bruno Coulais, who also did that very atmospheric score for The Crimson Rivers.

Top film, really. Modern neo-noir at its best!

There is a nice French Blu-ray release, courtesy of TF1, but it is not English-friendly. You could pick up the R2 DVD. It is very, very good.

^ I thought that was pretty mediocre(at best) compared to the original. Auteuil is always fantastic, but I felt he didn't quite fit into this role. Bellucci..

I think we're going to get a blu-ray upgrade for a title that's been long over due.

One (Maybe 2?) from this pool:

Picnic at Hanging Rock
Bicycle Thieves
Jules et Jim
Hiroshima mon amour
The Lady Eve
M. Hulot's Holiday
Tokyo Story
La Strada
Ikiru
Rififi
Le Samourai
Ace in the Hole

A dream release for me would be a David Lynch Criterion box set. A set of his films, plus a disc containing Rabbits and Dumbland would be amazing.

This is a longshot and I dont know that much about Criterion and their catalogue..

But is there a possibility that Criterion will release Come and See at some point? It seems right up their alley..

If you like Cronenberg's style, then absolutely.

I really hope we get Hiroshima soon. I borrowed it from library fairly recently and it left a huge impression on me. I almost picked up the DVD, just because I've been wanting to watch it so much since then.

I always feel awkward recommending blind buys to people I don't know personally.

Having said that, if the idea of the film intrigues you, even a little bit, I imagine you'll like it. Cronenberg really is a director who makes up his own rules.

I found Repo Man on a shelf last night, a week early, and walked out with the biggest grin. Richard III can wait.

I've wanted to watch Come and See for a while now, since reading Roger Ebert's Great Movies review of the film. Maybe it'll surface at some point.

Kino has the rights to Come and See and they have said a bluray is in the works.

Thanks for the recommendation!

I was wondering why pictures of Monica Bellucci always showed up whenever I looked up Le Deuxième Souffle on Google. This explains it.

Everyone here already knows that I want Le Samourai.

A Blu-ray upgrade of Rififi would also be a dream come true, though.

I found 2001 to be too sterile (much like Tarkovsky did). But that's just me.

When did they say the blu-ray was in the works? I feel like I heard that, as well as Dersu Uzala getting release on blu, but it was years ago.... I wish they would get to it already, and throw "Mirror" into the mix!

A long time ago Kino said, on their Facebook I believe, that Dersu Uzala and Come and See were suppose to be released in 2012. Of course that never came to be, but at least it means that they are in some stage of development.

I can't imagine how drool-inducing it would be if Criterion got their hands on Mirror.

My god, if any film is begging for a Blu-ray transfer, it's that one.
