Basically if you like historical epics set in the ancient world and/or are interested in ancient Egypt, THE EGYPTIAN is a must-own, especially if you have a very large TV screen or a projector, which enhances enjoyment immeasurably for this film. The wide aspect ratio is beautifully composed throughout, and needs a big screen for its impact. Picture quality is truly outstanding on the Blu-ray and the stereo soundtrack is also very good. There's also an audio commentary worth listening to, besides the isolated score.

Here's what it looks like on my basement theatre screen:

One connection The Egyptian does share with Cleopatra is that both films were photographed by the great lighting cameraman Leon Shamroy...who also shot this month's new TT arrival Leave Her to Heaven, as well as the upcoming Love is a Many-Splendored Thing. The hallmark of this 4-time Academy Award winning Director of Cinematography was his exquisitely modelled lighting...wherever you look in his frames they're damn near perfectly lit.

Here's one of my favourities in terms of richness and subtlety:

@Rockaround----good info! didn't realize that. I would say that the lighting in Cleopatra is one of the main things that really stood out for me when watching the bd. the movie--not so much.

I've been so pre-occupied with buying a new receiver and speakers that I forgot about Friday's pre-orders. I would assume they are selling decently and hope when low stock occurs SAE posts although I am sure I can read it here first.

I ordered Rapture through Amazon and they gave me a ten dollar code, I had to email them and place a comment with my order, but it all went through fine.

Does anyone know what the difference will be between the twilight version of Philadelphia and the Australian Jb Hifi version of Philadelphia? Also why is it coming out elsewhere if its exclusive to TT?

One is released by TT (with isolated score track and limited to 3,000 copies) in the US and the other Sony is releasing themselves. Sony is also releasing it in the following countries as well:

Germany
Italy
Japan
Sweden

Thanks! Besides movies, I've always loved ancient history, especially Egypt, so I decided to give my basement theatre a theme.

Don't I wish! That sarcophagus is actually sculpted and painted Styrofoam around a plywood frame that was built as a prop for a no-budget movie I made over a decade ago. I couldn't bear to throw it away afterwards, and it's obviously a bit bulky to have standing around a living room or bedroom, so setting it up in my screening room was a natural. Of course it's perfect for watching THE EGYPTIAN, CLEOPATRA, THE MUMMY, and the like!

Preordered Philadelphia. They should really ship a big box of Kleenex with it.

Believe me, the first 15 minutes give almost no inkling of what is to come. Better to go in completely blind and experience the film in its entirety.

I Wasn't Going to Pre-Order My Copy of Leave Her To Heaven Until Late Next week..
will they still have some left at that time??

I have never purchased anything from twilight time and so I don't know how fast do they generally hit the 3,000 copy's limit ??

There will be plenty of copies left for many months if not years.
