Default PS3 difference?

Ok, thinking about picking up a 3rd PS3 for the loft/kids area. Currently I have 2 60GB already. Now here comes the headache... What is the real difference between the 80GB, 60GB, 40GB, and the 20GB? I know there is a price difference and 40GB does not do backward compatibility at all. I know 60GB and 20GB have full BC, and 80GB is partial. But is there any major hardware/processor/parts difference? Is one better than the other say loading time or any other advantages for the newer models besides price?

Thanx in advance.

The 40GB has two USB ports. My 60GB has 4. Plus the 60GB has other card options e.g. SD etc.. I got mine back in Dec 2006 and maybe played 10 min of older PS2 games. I think it was Metal Gear Solid.

The 20 gig does not have wifi, the 40 gig cant play ps2 games, and ony has 2 usb ports and no card sd card slots, the 60 gigs has everything, 4 usb, can play all ps2 games, the 80 gig is the same as he 60 gig except ps2 games run on sofware. EDIT: also super audio cd support is only availible on the 60 and 80 gig. ( i think the 80 gig)

I think you knew all this already from the looks of your post. your main question was do they have a processor difference, like speed, loading ect. and the answer is no. there all the same.

The 40GB does have chrome trim; but its a matte chrome. Not a shiny chrome.

I have a 60GB in the livingroom, and a 40GB in the bedroom. Don't get me wrong, I love my 60GB for the obvious reasons, but the 40GB units are quite nice, run very cool and very quiet.

I have the 40GB fold 24/7 and you can barely tell. However, as soon as I turn folding on on the 60GB unit, the fans are going crazy making a lot of noise.

If you already have two 60GB units .... get a 40GB unit. You won't regret it.

The 40gb also does not play back SACD's. The main missing feature is the backwards compat with ps2 (it still plays ps1 games.) So if you dont intend on playing SACD's or PS2 games, the 40gb will be fine for you. Plus I have heard the fan is not as noisy.

I was not complaining about fan noise. Some people care about fan noise so I thought I would point it out. Especially if they are not turning the sound way up. I have the 60gb and the fan on that is audible, but not really distracting. The PS3 is not nearly as loud as the 360. Heck I think the fan on the Dreamcast might have been louder.

My 60gb is definatly louder then my 40gb. In every aspect, f@h, games, BD's, DVD's, web surfing, and music. The 40gb is a really nice choice.

If you don't think BC is important for the unit, pop a 40g in there.

Since you already have two 60gs, the lack of 2 ports and reader and BC probably won't matter much.

I'm buying a 2nd PS3 later in the year, cough MGS4 pack, cough. Since I have a 60g, I'm going with whatever is in the MGS4 pack.
