The HSU's are great for movies but trump the SVS for music, in my opinion. The only downside to the Dayton HSU sub is waiting until June. Check below for deals.

So, in your opinion, the HSU is better than the SVS for balanced movie/music use?

I too am in the market for a new sub. The SVS sub interestes me due to response down to 20Hz. I am also in the same boat as the OP, in that my budget is sorely lacking.

Right now, I am using a Polk Audio PSW404 (10", 200w) and it is doing an alright job for now, but I just upgraded my L/C/R/S to Axiom, and they sound so damn good that now I want a "real" sub to round out my sound once and for all.

Also, to the OP, what specs are you looking at on the Onkyo 805 that leads you to believe that the phone jack's output stage is so much better than the 605 or 705? I have no clue of the spec, is why I ask.
