Quick follow-on. How has the quality been with Scream Factory's releases? I would assume that they are given the masters from the controlling studio for their pressings. All of the Price films in the above listing have been aired in HD on various cable channels, and the prints are superb. Here's hoping the Blu-ray ports are at least equally impressive in PQ!

And there still so many great MGM titles to be had and who knows who will release them...Planet of the Vampires and Without Warning for starters... Die Monster Die, Angry Red Planet and Reptilicus would be great too... Wow my Midnite movies collection is going to shrink down big time now ! ![]() ![]() |

Sounds good. Don't see why they wouldn't add The Last Man on Earth though, considering that it's in the public domain.

Obviously one shouldn't read too much into that but it was definitely encouraging. |

One thing you have to realize is that while a movie itself may be in the public domain, that doesn't mean that the physical source material is in the public domain. MGM would likely have access to the original camera material via their acquisition of United Artists which, in turn, had most of the old American International Pictures properties. So, while the movie, as intellectual property, is in the public domain, the best source material would still be the private property of MGM. You can't just show up at MGM and say, "We're doing a BD of THE LAST MAN ON EARTH so give us your camera negative". I would LOVE for SHOUT FACTORY to do THE LAST MAN ON EARTH. In a perfect world, they could do a deal to get their hands on the source that MGM used. But, failing that, they would have to find their own source material. And we don't know what kind of GOOD source material is available outside of MGM. |

Looking at the titles I had pretty much assumed these were all licensed from (and presumably transfered by) MGM but I suppose that's not necessarily the case. But if this is a deal with MGM then The Last Man on Earth would be an odd omission (unless they've dealt it to Criterion or TT or the like). Last edited by octagon; 04-26-2013 at 08:57 PM. |

TT did announce that they have no horror titles planned other than The Blob, for what's its worth. I can't see Criterion releasing it either.
