I would be happy if they used the UHE for the 3D version (because I have no interest in 3D) and gave us a new scan for a new 2D remaster with a better encode and bit rate on a 50 GB disc, but that's wishful thinking..

Anyway the 2008 Blu-Ray will do me just fine, thankfully we Predator fans aren't limited to the UHE as the only Blu-Ray release...
Thank god for that, I should've kept my UHE set though the extras. That wasn't a very clever move to just flog it.

The 2008 disc actually holds up pretty well though considering it's from an old unrestored scan and the fact it has an ancient encoding. It was a revelation to watch after the shoddy DVD transfers and the UHE.

I have hung on to my 2 disc special edition DVD for the extras (which the UHE duplicated). If you want them then I recommend you should buy a copy of the special edition DVD, it would be cheap as chips to get now.

Yes the 2008 disc does look good all considering its limitations as far as encode, bit rate, lack of disc storage data and a old scan goes. I did a direct test a little while ago on my 55" LED between the DVD and the 2008 Blu-Ray and the 08 Blu-Ray really is a revelation in comparsen! Its a supranational upgrade, but I would still rather watch the DVD over the UHE.

I'm wondering if the 3D conversion will be from a DNR'd master. Because of the severe grain levels in Predator (I'm not complaining about the grain, but apparently a lot of people have). This could end up like Top Gun with a 3D conversion with accurate grain and a DNR'd 2D version. That would absolutely suck.

I wouldn't give Fox the benefit of the doubt.

Major pass. I don't need this in 3d, or anything for that matter.

The way I see 3D in general (regardless if its native or a conversion), its better served for those special occasions at the theaters on the BIG screen rather than at home. At home I don't give a **** about 3D, 2D in Full-HD is all I need.

For my part, I still haven't bought any version of Predator.
If this 3D-version finally includes the 2D-restoration we've been waiting for, I'll buy it!

It looks like we might have an official release date. It says 20th November on this website. I'll certainly buy this if the 2D disc has a new transfer. If it doesn't I'll be sticking with 2008 MPEG-2 edition. Did the 2D disc that came with the I-Robot 3D edition have the full screen transfer that was on the 3D disc instead of the widescreen transfer that was on the older edition? Because that could be a good indication of whether this release might have a new 2D transfer or not.

They're asking the exact same question over on the Warner's Oz 3D thread, and the answer is exactly the same for Fox as it is for Warner:
Fox will shove Aliens, Predator and Aliens vs. Predator down your f***in' throat until you REMEMBER THEIR NAME.

There wasn't a "2D disc" in the I, Robot combo pack other than the DVD; according to the back of the Blu-Ray (via DVDEmpire), the Blu-Ray disc offered both a 3D and 2D presentation and no other extras. This at least means it won't be a Jurassic Park scenario where the old Blu-Ray is included.

It always amazes me how 3D drives some men to use profanity and another to go to church. 3D can control the hearts of men.

A movie in itself is art, however great or poor it may be. Taking a 100% 2D film and converting it to 3D is nothing but a cash grab gimmick. Come on, you're smarter than this.
