It's been a few years since I last saw The Godfather: Part II, and I had forgotten that Harry Dean Stanton has a minor role. That gave me a smile as I revisited the movie tonight. I am glad that there are no degrees of separation between The Godfather trilogy and Repo Man, Two-Lane Blacktop, or Paris, Texas.

I highly recommend that any of you who have not already seen The Godfather films in the Blu-ray format do so at some point. These Blu-ray presentations are really something else.

Watched The Man Who Knew Too Much last night (The Criterion release of the original, obviously)

First time seeing this version, and went in not knowing much about it. Very different in many respects tot he original, but working towards a similar ending.

We found it interesting that the roles between the mother and father were kind of reversed.

Found it to be quite good, but not as great as the other two Criterion Hitchcock Blu-Ray releases. Would still love to see more of his English work released by Criterion.

Also got three quarters of the way through 12 Angry Men again. Will finish it up this afternoon.

Haven't been able to come across Wing of Desire locally yet, and my copy of Seven Samurai is due to arrive on the 10th of May, so hopefully it's not too delayed.

We don't even own them on DVD yet - Must pick up the Blu-Rays at some point. (Still pretty focused on Criterion Blus at the moment though)

I hear ya on the Criterion Blu-rays.

I've taken it upon myself to hurry up and watch the rest of my unwatched Blu-rays. I have 24 left to watch. It's all in the fun, and most of them are films that I've seen quite a few times in other formats. I'm saving the few blind buys (The Big Heat, Rapture, and Experiment in Terror from Twilight Time, then Greed in the Sun and Taxi for Tobruk from Olive Films) for last.

Along the way, I'll be revisiting Videodrome, Rosemary's Baby, and Pierrot Le Fou on the Criterion front, and I'll get to them sometime next week, I expect. First, however, I'm going to watch The Godfather: Part III tomorrow night, and then watch the three extended editions of The Lord of the Rings, as to finish watching the multi-film series Blu-rays.

We recently had a big pile of unwatched Blus, but now we're down to just two - Neither Criterions (The Third Man and Spellbound).

Luckily, just as we are catching up we have a couple of orders worth of Blus about to arrive. (Fanny and Alexander, 400 Blows, Seven Samurai, Black Narcissus, Diabolique and *maybe* Le Cercle Rouge. Plus the non-Criterions, Panic in the Streets, Scarlet Street and Contempt).

Already putting the next order together in my head. ;P

I've watched Paris Texas 3 times now... I enjoy and love it even more after every viewing.

The picture quality is truly amazing aside from the cinematography. They did a superb job of cleaning it up. HOWEVER...

What's interesting is I looked it up on Criterion's website and I was watching the Criterion Trailer for it... and now I'm actually curious to watch the movie without it being restored and cleaned up.

http://www.criterion.com/films/1502-paris-texas

When I watch that clip, the film looks more like it belongs in the 70's which changes the dynamic for me. Not that I didn't love the movie the way it was produced on blu-ray, but watching that trailer and the audio which isn't the mastered track, and the grainy picture I think would go along perfect with this movie since the themes and metaphors about blurry vagueness and what not fit along perfect with the film. The colors/shading look different... and the tone just looks different like it'd fit with the movie better.

The remastered picture is great, but now I'm left wondering.

I just rewatched the remake last night and I was blown away. It's been quite a few years since I've seen it, but it's easily one of my favorite westerns.

With that being said, I noticed the remake had a higher rating than the original, especially on IMDB. I know IMDB isn't a good basis, but I still find it funny.

Fantastic film (and a damn good movie). Everybody in it was good to very good and Cassey Affleck was flat-out brilliant.

Glad to read so many people like it. Growing up in the 50's, Westerns were everywhere on TV with the stalwarts like Gunsmoke, Bonanza, Have Gun Will Travel, plus all those WB series like Cheyenne, Bronco, Sugarfoot, etc. and numerous others. Needless to say, Westerns are one of my favorite genres so, with the scarcity of them today, I'm all over one when they do get made. TAoJJbtCRF was just so good when I saw it-I immediately re-watched it and have seen it quite a few times since. Course, it whets my appetite for a genuine Malick Western but it's a very fine film on it's own.

I'm not averse to buying I Married a Witch but I've got sooooooooo much other stuff on my Criterion list right now I don't really like its chances of even making the November cut.

That's said, if it were on sale somewhere right before Halloween...

Not a bad western but I would not even place it in a top 20 of my best western. Still no reason it should not be in Criterion, just not one I would care to buy for me.

Since we have to talk about the 15TH anyone beside me is just sad that Criterion after 5 years is ignoring still Sergei Eisenstein on Blu-ray? Kino so far are the only one's with two releases. Where is Alexander Nevskky Criterion? Where is Ivan The Terrible?
