Guys, as I said in another thread... don't buy these shitty Bluray movies and better subscribe for Zee Cinema HD channel and watch some good old movies in HD format which is much better than Bluray like Gupt.

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...8&postcount=34

Those who are not aware, Zee Cinema HD is really doing a great job in making HD transfer of old Hindi movies.

All the movies are in 1080i HD with decent AAC Stereo Sound. And I must say picture quality is quite good with a much high bit rate in comparison to other channels like Star Gold HD, Movies Now HD and Zee Studio HD. The only shortcoming is ...they don't provide 5.1 sound. All the old Hindi movies on Star Gold HD are in crappy upscaled version with damaged aspect ratio.

But I must appreciate Zee Cinema HD which never show movies in upscaled version, instead they have made decent HD transfer of all the old movie they are showing.

- Deewar, Coolie, Don (Amitabh movie), Seeta Aur Geeta :- All these movies are cropped from original 1.33:1 ratio to 16:9 ratio, yet I never felt much about image being cropped throughout the movie.

- Prem Rog, Sardari Begum :- These movies are shown in original 1.33:1 ratio with vertical black bar on both the side.

- Gupt, Khiladi, Krantiveer, Vishwatma, Tridev, Shaan, Sharaabi, Shahenshah, Muqqaddar Ka Sikander, Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, Hum Saath Saath Hain, Mohra, Maine Pyar Kiya:-
All these movies are shown in original 2.35:1 aspect ratio.

Fair Disclosure: I am not promoting Zee Cinema HD channel, it's just I really appreciate the quality standards of this channel.
At a time, when other HD channels are fooling customers by providing most of the content in 720p or by upscaling, Zee Cinema HD is always telecasting movies in real 1080i HD.

I live in the UK and we only have the SD version of Zee Cinema and that too in 4:3 broadcast so all newer movies are basically in a box with pillar and letter boxes. The only HD channel we have in the UK for an Asian channel is Star Plus HD and recently checked Chalte Chalte on their and did find that it was an upscaled print, they will be showing Hera Pheri tomorrow but I suspect it will also be upscaled.

I dont really like Zee Cinema to be honest in regards to new movies here espeically in the UK they cut the films a lot. However I love them for old movies as they do have good prints. But the 16:9 crop you mentioned of movies like Coolie and Deewar that you mentioned is turn off for me.

I'm sorry but I cannot share your enthusiasm for the Zee group of channels. For the record, none of the Zee channels have the ability to broadcast Dolby Digital and therefore are not even truly HD compliant. I can from experience and personal interaction with senior technical people at Zee, inform you that they are probably the most technically challenged major TV channel / DTH group in India. The Vice President of Technical at Zee does not even know what actually stereo is, let alone multi channel sound. The Dish TV set-top boxes don't even have the hardware to decode Dolby Digital and none of their channels broadcast Dolby Digital sound. I don't watch much of TV, let alone Zee channels, but more often than not, I have found the movies being shown on their channels, to be cropped for 16:9, instead of the correct aspect ratio. Regarding the picture quality, your experience with other channels may be colored simply by how your service provider is showing those channels. Due to limited bandwidth available to DTH companies, there is a lot of politics involved in the bit rate allocation to individual channels.

Zee studio HD provides DD but im not sure whether it is pseudo or original. Zee lacks in audio department as you had already mentioned.
