Sorry folks if I keep repeating myself, in away this story is really ticking me off. Now both LG and Samsung are making combo players. My hope was that Universal Studios would have started releasing movies in BLU-RAY and there would be no market for combo players. Both formats are now going to coexist. Once quality Universal players reach around $500 then sales of both Toshiba HD-DVD players and Sony BLU-RAY players will suffer. I now expect many more companies coming out with universal players in late 2008 for under $500.
I was planning on upgrading all my DVD players with the Sony BDP-S300 this July or August but now am going to hold off for Universal HDTV players for under $1000. As the way it looks now I will be upgrading all my DVD players with a universal player when they hit the under $500 price point.
Universal players will only cause both formats to coexist especially when some studios release better soundtracks on HD-DVD titles. With a universal player consumers will be able to choose a title based on which version has the best picture and sound quality.

I am a movie collector first wanting the best sound and picture quality regardless of format.

I do not currently own any HD-DVD movies but with universal players coming that work correctly in both formats that will change. Universal Studios caused this to happen by not releasing in BLU-RAY.
