Besides the fact that it's region free...it's also pretty cheap. It's currently priced at £6.75 on Amazon UK. After subtracting VAT and adding shipping, it comes to just over $14 US. Hell...I should buy it myself!

Jump the gun. You won't regret it! Other than Raging Bull, I can't think of a more emotionally impacting boxing movie.

The Fighter? Warrior?

I'm not a big boxing fan, but I enjoyed the two I just mentioned. Haven't seen Raging Bull yet after all these years.

I'm a younger child of the nineties - I hit the teen years by decade's end - but I have a high nostalgia for it just the same. Whilst doing a mental inventory recently I've even come to the conclusion that the 90s is probably[*] my favorite decade for film--at least, there are just so many great films from that decade. As facile a demarcation the 'decade' is, of course.
Right on dude, I concur, Dreams is the definitive song in the soundtrack, in spite of the time devoted to California. Yeah, gotta crank up the Cranberries.

Okay all, I've gotten my nineties alternative music love and longing out (for now).

Agreed, the nineties is an awesome decade for movies . . . for me it's probably the tops too, and then perhaps the seventies. I'd have to think more about this, though.

But I'm biased. The nineties is the tops for me because I was in high school and then college, and I think those films stick with and have special resonance for me as result. I remember seeing all those great movies in the theater - posts have mentioned lots of these films . . . I can remember Pulp Fiction on the big screen, a teenager, and thinking . When Travolta and Samuel L. show up at the apartment and munch on Big Kahuna burgers and slurp down the soda before . . .

Oh, the nineties, much love.

Agreed, although I do also like the grittiness of the Set-Up as a kind of expose of the sport's underbelly.

Better than those for sure (Warrior is MMA).

Well I have my Criterions separate from my regular ones, and since I know I'm going to be keeping all of my Criterions, I'm just watching my regular films.

I will watch Band of Outsiders, Breathless, and Wings of Desire this week, though.

Probably The Great Escape and Upstream Color from my regulars, as well.

True, but it does have some boxing added into it.

The Harder They Fall would be another.

Great point. Steiger is genius. I loved Hands Over the City. In terms of American actors in Italian flicks - I'm not sure which I prefer more, Steiger in Hands or Lancaster in The Leopard. I'm going to say Leopard because I think it's the better movie, but, to the theme of grittiness and realism, there is something special about the way that Rosi, in Hands, captured urban corruption in postwar Italy.

Okay, so maybe I'll walk it back . . . Steiger's performance in Hands is outstanding, and so is Lancaster's in Leopard, they are equally remarkable and compelling, but the latter movie is head and shoulders above the former, imo.

Sounds like a great week. I can't wait to get to Upstream Color. Provided you enjoy the rest of your Godard films, I suggest getting to Weekend promptly.

Oh I forgot I had that one too haha. I'll add it to the watch list this week!

I'm watching (500) Days of Summer and they just parodied The Seventh Seal haha. It was quite humorous, in my opinion.

Apologies if anyone already pointed this out (I'm on my phone where browsing and searching are cumbersome), but Leon Morin dropped to $19.99 on Amazon a few hours back. Decided to bite while I still can. One of a handful I didn't have yet.

I didn't think that was funny at all. Actually, I didn't find any of that film funny, romantic, enlightening or entertaining.

Who wants to buy my once viewed copy?

Don't forget the ending...
[Show spoiler]I think the ending may be the worst part. One of the most contrived 'happy' endings I can think of.

Yes. I loved how the film is essentially about the emptiness of material wealth. Simple but very true. In essence it recalled another John Garfield film: Force of Evil.

I didn't really find any of the film to be funny, but that was one of the more humorous parts.

I'm getting rid of my copy, too. I hated the movie lol. It was so overrated, in my opinion. I don't see the hype surrounding it - maybe because it's not a happy happy love story and just a happy one or perhaps because it appealed more to guys? I thought it was very cliché overall. I hate Zooey Deschanel.

Hated the ending too.

My problems were many. Apart from the obnoxious, quirky, hollow (I couldnt believe for a second that their musical preferences belonged to them) style, I could see EXACTLY where the film was heading (what epiphany JGL would have).
