I've seen what 80's 3D had to offer...I sincerely doubt it looked that good when they first came out.
The one time I've seen 3D done correctly was in Piranha 3D. Purposefully in your face with its effects and it made the gimmick actually fun. And I have heard that the 3D in Hugo was great too but I wasn't there unfortunately. |

I'm sorry just that I cannot comprehend the idea of a shark not moving toward the screen somehow looked great.
Piranha 3D had an excuse given the technology was better developed and it was post converted 3D which by default should have not worked but it did. |

If you do a little research you'll realize that the films I mentioned are very well known for being the best 3d in its day. And to be honest..they haven't utilized it as well that often. |

It has to be something that people had demanded for a while.

As if it was any different back in the 80's. Maybe it looked kind of good back then but they sure as hell haven't aged well. Again, the slow moving shark being an example. Not to mention, they used a cheap process for Jaws 3 and to think that was jump started by what was supposed to be a remake of the Creature of the Black Lagoon.

Wondering if anyone else here saw it back in the day. If you do a little research you'll realize that the films I mentioned are very well known for being the best 3d in its day. Boy if only they would do a Blu Ray release of Pumpkinhead speaking of Mr Hendrickson..
I truly believe this is the start of something special. If they do this right, lord knows what the boundaries will be..im almost certain that have a TON of titles and as they said more to be announced for this year yet..which would be the 4th Quarter Id even venture to say some of those NO responses could become a yes if they make money on this business deal |

![]() That seems like a pretty full schedule. I feel like they probably have more though. We are getting into the regular 3,4,5,more titles a month plan. I hope that sticks, roughly. & Savage Weekend Someone just mentioned that in a list of Public Domain films. I always thought MGM owned it. Can anyone clarify? |

The reason everyone's so excited about getting Jaws and Amityville, you have to have been there to know: In the 80's it was ALL about pop-out, and that glorious myth of the 50's. Nobody was even thinking "depth" back then, except for one or two desert movies. An 80's 3D is like an 80's rock tune: They don't make 'em like that now, but they made 'em like that then. ![]() Now, if we can just get Cliff to tell us who did the work on it-- The 3D Archive doesn't know a thing about it (and they sneer at 80's titles anyway); MGM isn't around to do the work, and they'd hardly bother anyway. If this's a made-for-disk restoration that's not going to theaters to pick up the tab of an expensive 3D re-alignment, will it be as good as Universal's Creature, or as bad as Warner's Harry Potter 7.1? Or is it just converting an old Sensio master, where alternating frames are already a little more separate for digital? Universal already has Jaws 3D converted (it's playing the Expo next September), and it'll stay in their own sequel box next to the original. The rumors say we were supposed to get the box last summer, but Spielberg preferred that the original go out by itself as a Universal 100 classic. Whether we'll see it this August, the clock is ticking. Last edited by EricJ; 05-08-2013 at 09:59 PM. |
