Default Steven Soderbergh on what's wrong with Hollywood

http://www.studiodaily.com/2013/04/s...en-soderbergh/
In this video, Steven Soderbergh gives an honest lecture on what he thinks about the movie industry today. He raises some great points here. Hollywood, take notice!

I know that one of the problems is when studios pay like $10 or $20 million to convert older films to 3D then waste all the money to promote that film and re-release it in theaters for some unknown reason. Just a waste in every way.
Modestly budgeted films for an adult audiences are becoming rare. Dont waste the money for that 3D gimmick and give it to a Terry Gilliam or a Spike Lee or someone who has a unique talent.

they do stupid things but, 3d conversions are one of the smartest things they do, the 3d conversion and 3d home release makes up for what they put in to converting it and they know the audience is there so all they have to do marketing wise is let people know it's out

titanic added another 300+m and 40+m each for jurassic park and nemo

I read a lot of the transcript. It was an amazing speech and I love how much he seemed to care about the art of filmmaking.

He's one of those guys that just makes films because he loves it.

And won't be for much longer, by all accounts. It'll be a terrible loss for cinema when he finally packs it all in.

I doubt he will go away forever. There hasn't been a feature director with his work output that I can think of. Guy loves filmmaking too much. He just needs an extended vacation IMO.

Simply an amazing, wonderful speech. Everyone who loves cinema should be required to watch/read it.
