I understand Ghostbusters. It needed a restoration and it's a popular title. But Battle L.A., Angels & Demons, Total Recall, The Karate Kid, The Other Guys? Seriously these are the titles they are trying to get people to double dip on? Shouldn't these titles of been released right the first time. They are recent movies that came out less than 5 years ago, and IMO are not that good of films to begin with. I mean Total Recall just came out 5 months ago on Blu-ray. Are there that many fans of that movie that bought it in December and want to buy it again 5 months later? I get where blu-ray_girl_fan is coming from.

I've said myself in this thread that this is obviously Sony doing Superbit for BD (especially marketing wise) but that doesn't mean the results would be as minimal (I'd disagree that there weren't Superbit DVDs that were an upgrade) since the formats are different. There is a large ability for upgrade on a lot of releases, especially catalog titles. If this is what it takes for Sony to upgrade old releases or maintain a line of quality for newer releases then I am all for it if Ghostbusters is any indication of what they can do. Why is this so disagreeable for people? If it doesn't interest you, simply move on. |

That is why I have zero interest in those titles. Ghostbusters and Glory came in today and I got them because those are films I enjoy quite a bit and both (to varying degrees) deserve a better transfer. Having now watched about a hour of Ghostbusters I think it is in the upper echelon of catalog titles I've ever seen. It is stunning.

Just got Glory and Angels & Demons in from Amazon. I can't wait to watch Glory, as I've never seen it on blu-ray before. I also can't wait to do a comparison on Angels & Demons, as I own the previous release.
Fittingly enough, speaking of Angels & Demons, my wifes B-day present for me was in the Amazon box: Inferno. Can't wait to start reading it! ![]() As for the debate here, I think both sides have vaild points. Sony could've easily place the extras on these releases, making them the definitive edition to have. But they didn't. I also get that Sony is trying to usher in this new technology, and will probably use these sales as possible benchmark on how to procede forward with future 4k releases. Which is why I went with 2 of the $14.99 releases. Not too heavy a price, for me, and I can combine my Angels & Demons bonus disc to have the best of both worlds on that one. So in closing I don't mind "dabbling" in this new technology on a couple of releases, but I don't like the fact that Sony made them barebones. Just goes to show: You can please some of the people all of the time, or You can please all of the people some of the time. ![]() |

Most of them were, except Total Recall apparently, which had some audio issue. There's nothing wrong with the other ones.
You always get shouted down when you take issue with studios needlessly wasting the format's bandwidth and ultimately opening you up to double-dipping on incremental improvements, and here we are. No doubt WB is going to start re-releasing all those disc-half-empty VC1 titles at some point. |

Those Spidey caps are right on the money. The new release has oodles more detail (look at the tiles on the church, or MJ's eyes) and the colour saturation is a bit more even-handed. Altogether they make for a beautifully filmic upgrade.
Let me say it one more time: marginal my ass. |
