Steelbooks are fun if they're limited/first run, but common ones (like the Best Buy "exclusives" and the recent Universal/Warner Bros. releases) aren't that exciting. Especially since the Universal releases all look the same, spine and all. I do plan on getting the WB Batman Returns even though I already own the regular release. Although that's only because I love Burton's versions, and because the back art is cool. I have the Digibook for Batman, which is superior to Steelbooks in my opinion, so I won't be rebuying that. For me, this is how I decide which version to get: Regular Blu-ray < Slipcovered Blu-ray < Steelbook < Digibook < Criterion. Another thing that annoys me about some Steelbooks (that makes them feel less fun to get) is a lack of inside artwork or a decent finish. To me, it's obvious that the studio only wanted to print them as fast as they could to make some money. The WB/Universal Steelbooks are a great example. That's why I'll only be getting Batman Returns. |

-No more than $30 for a steelbook. If it's not readily attainable for less than that, it ain't worth it. -English-language digibooks only. -Slipcovers only for Disney/Pixar animated releases. I like uniformity. |

I don't collect them so to speak, I just like the casing better. Generally they look better too. I only have them for movies I like and would of bought anyway. The only one I have unopened is Iron Man.

I voted yes.
It has diminished the charm of it, but not the desire. I still love the things, I just don't get excited anymore because like everyone is saying, its a never ending train of steelbooks. It used to be like fishing, but now its like the fish jump out of the water into your bucket. If amazon, zavvi, best buy, target etc were bricks and mortars under one roof, I can imagine the sort of haul I would be taking home after each visit. |

I voted NO but but do agree with this at the same time. At least that's the situation in the US. Still have several I'm looking to import or buy from amazon sellers that have imported them.

I still love collecting steelbooks ,yes there are more to choose from now a days but i say the more the better what i hate is that they are releasing the rereleases now so most of the steelbooks dont have any value now,but i will still keep collecting them but wont spend money on them as i used to.try to keep your patient and hope that you either find it for cheap or they rerelease it.but as some said i prefer digipacks and collectors editions they are better to display and give you more artwork and memorabilia

I enjoy them because they're a little different, but I don't buy them because I think they're "collector's items". My biggest gripe lately is that many don't have the bonus disks that were released with the originals (at least in the US) and many don't have interior artwork either.

No. I don't care if something is "rare". The amount of other people than own an item doesn't somehow affect my enjoyment of the same item, that's just silly (and asocial). I love rereleases for the sole reason that it ***** those idiot resellers who try to mass hoard them.
Plus I buy films I actually want. I'm not going to go buy something because it's a steelbook or not unless i actually wanted to see it, thus more coming out means there's a larger pool of them I can get. |

I don't think my lack of enthusiasm has diminished, but my ability to keep up with all these damn releases with having no solid income because I've just left university is certainly putting a kibosh on things.
So hopefully I can start earning more money again with my new venture and start collecting again properly ![]() |

I prefer steel over any other case. That being said the fragility of them has kind of gotten to me. Every shipment is a crapshoot and when dealing with overseas returns/exchanges it's just not worth it for me. Need more B & M exclusives here in U.S.

I'll always prefer a digi over a steel even if the steel's artwork is superior. I just recently sold a bunch of steels I had to help pay for their digi counterparts. I do think steels are losing a bit of their luster because of the cheap WB BB exclusives from last year with no inside art work. Now I only will buy steels of new releases like Django & ZD30. I'll also chase a G2 steel if it's the same price as the amaray counterpart. For example, I bought the steel of Safe House from amazon.uk because the price difference was only about $2.
