I'd pick that up in a heartbeat. Groundhog Day is one of my favorite films.

Interesting things on the Ghostbusters disc:

It does not. If this is supposed to play before the film, it didn't for me. It has a lot of nature clips, followed by bits from The Amazing Spider-Man, The Bridge on the River Kwai, Lawrence of Arabia, and Total Recall (2012):

Code:
QUICK SUMMARY:

Disc Title: GHOSTBUSTERS
Disc Size: 34,844,021,509 bytes
Protection: AACS
BD-Java: Yes
Playlist: 00451.MPLS
Size: 289,191,936 bytes
Length: 0:02:01.162
Total Bitrate: 19.09 Mbps
Video: MPEG-4 AVC Video / 17998 kbps / 1080p / 23.976 fps / 16:9 / High Profile 4.1
Audio: English / Dolby Digital Audio / 2.0 / 48 kHz / 192 kbps / DN -4dB
But there is other amusing content on the disc.

Four rating tags of the Netherlands' Kijkwijzer system (there's also a Dutch info tag elsewhere on the disc) from AL to 16 (except 9), As though Ghostbusters were rated the equivalent of "anywhere from G to NC-17 (except PG)" in the United States. Playlists 00550.MPLS through 00553.MPLS (00267.m2ts-00270.m2ts contain these brief, cute little videos.

Example: AL

Code:
QUICK SUMMARY:

Disc Title: GHOSTBUSTERS
Disc Size: 34,844,021,509 bytes
Protection: AACS
BD-Java: Yes
Playlist: 00550.MPLS
Size: 12,546,048 bytes
Length: 0:00:09.009
Total Bitrate: 11.14 Mbps
Video: MPEG-2 Video / 10394 kbps / 1080i / 29.970 fps / 16:9
Audio: English / Dolby Digital Audio / 2.0 / 48 kHz / 192 kbps / DN -4dB
In addition to the aforementioned Dutch copyright tag, there is one in Arabic, but also one in German from the FSK, which is bizarre, because there are no German options on the disc.

Code:
QUICK SUMMARY:

Disc Title: GHOSTBUSTERS
Disc Size: 34,844,021,509 bytes
Protection: AACS
BD-Java: Yes
Playlist: 00025.MPLS
Size: 1,148,928 bytes
Length: 0:00:05.046
Total Bitrate: 1.82 Mbps
Video: MPEG-2 Video / 854 kbps / 1080p / 23.976 fps / 16:9
And there's this, which is an unidentified collection of color bars and test patterns, followed by two pictures of women (?), and then the world's slowest panorama shot of an outdoor area (possibly in Japan? The end shot has a somewhat Japanese-looking building in it )? I don't know if this is somehow related to the disc's use in Sony 4K TV's or what...

N.B.: I've just found out that these test patterns are common to Sony Blu-rays, you just enter "SONY" (7669) on your remote to access them.

Code:
QUICK SUMMARY:

Disc Title: GHOSTBUSTERS
Disc Size: 34,844,021,509 bytes
Protection: AACS
BD-Java: Yes
Playlist: 00002.MPLS
Size: 323,088,384 bytes
Length: 0:04:46.244
Total Bitrate: 9.03 Mbps
Video: MPEG-4 AVC Video / 8584 kbps / 1080p / 23.976 fps / 16:9 / High Profile 4.1
There are other bits and bobs, mostly the standard plethora of multilingual copyright screens--there must be dozens on the disc.

Oh, and there's a region mismatch screen (as well as a parental control lockout screen) from Sony, which is amusing, given that it has no place on a region-free disc.

I saw these at Barnes and Noble today, but none had slipcovers. I'm just going to order them from Amazon.

B&N removes all slipcovers, period. At least in the ones I have been in, they do.

Makes me want to pick up the first Spider-Man now instead of waiting, since I've heard so many good things about it, and I'd like for Sony to know there's enough interest in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man for them to also re-release Spider-Man 2. Spider-Man 3 they can ignore. Heh
Since this was a very weak "wave" we sure can hope they give us better and more deserving movies in the future. I probably won't even buy one of these (maybe taxi driver or amazing spider man if it got a PQ bump but since they are brand new already I don't think there will be a noticable difference) since they messed up the extended editions big time.

You should know that every movie doesn't look the same.

To see it in motion, it really is a lovely upgrade. It mightn't seem as "crisp" as Ghostbusters, even though the latter should present the softer image owing to the 30-year-old anamorphic lensing, but I think that's to do with the early-ish digital grading that Spidey received. AFAIK it didn't get a complete DI so it was finished on film, resulting in a negative that's a combo of camera and film-out material. The latter will retain the artefacts that the grading process brings with it, like the ringing that's still evident on this otherwise sparkling new transfer.

Dark Knight films are Warner so they won't be part of this Sony line.

You don't need a 4k display. There are many displays out there that support xvycc color. What I doubt many have is a Blu-Ray player that supports it (unless the PS3 truly does and it's just completely unnoticeable to my naked eye).

One can certainly piss and moan about the number of Sony catalog releases but their quality is consistently top-notch.
Not always. Night of the Living Dead 1990 on bd looks awful. Wish that one would get a re-release with fixed color timing once the 3 year license to Twilight Time expires, but that'll probably never happen.

That's interesting. It does not play on my Blu-ray player ether. But it can be found in the stream folder. I just got spider-man in the mail today. Im going to see if there is anything hidden on there as well.
Thanks for all the info.

According to the Ghostbusters review, it seems most of these new tranfers are pretty negligble save for Ghostbusters and Glory.

This isn't rocket science folks:
Ghostbusters, Spiderman, and Glory are new transfers.
The rest are not, because they have always been 4K transfers.

The others actually are new 4K transfers. They are just replacing already existing 4K transfers.

Yes, even something like THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, which only came out about fifteen minutes ago.
