Default What factors into your decision when buying a certain Blu-ray Disc?

I'm just wondering what factors into your decision when buying a certain Blu-ray Disc? There are some people on here who own 70-something BD's, and that's not a knock on them at all.

Obviously, PQ and the audio track plays a big part. Aside from that, what do you look for before buying one? Special features? What is it? Humor me.

For me,...I generally only buy the Blu-ray's that I have to have, although there have been a few exceptions. I'm 18 and I'm on a budget, so I don't go out and buy all the comedies and crap, although I'd like to.

I'm big on crime dramas, so if there's a good cop movie on Blu-ray, then I consider that a movie that I have to have in HD. I have some movies on SD DVD that are on Blu-ray, but on some of those I don't care about the picture quality, while there are some others that I'm willing to upgrade from SD to HD.

Just wondering here.

I tend to only buy the must have collection, otherwise there are other ways to have the dvd version. I MUST genuinely like the movie. The blu-ray.com review is always a bonus. whether it has a pcm track and ofcourse price.

If it is in my standard library and I watch it more then a few times and I REALLY like it then I'll buy it on blu-ray. I will not buy blu-ray just because it's the new thing on the block, there are other things more important in life.

I failed to mention that. Review on the main page plays into my decision as well.

Smile Several Factors

I have 79 titles as of today, and plan to get "Enchanted" tomorrow.

I base my decision to buy a title in Blu-ray on several factors:
a. If I have seen the movie before, did I like it?
b. Will I probably watch this movie again?
c. Cost. Example: Commando coming out in Blu. $27?? No way, that movie is too old for that price (and you can buy the standard DVD at the Wal-Mart dive bin for less than $8). Commando should be a $14.95 movie at best.
d. PQ and audio, and story.
e. If I have not seen the movie, I check out reviews on this site or High Def Digest.com.

Pretty much the same. I'll add one though. I usually only buy movies that I know I will watch it again period. By again I mean more than one more time. Like Terminator 2 or Starwars. Those movie I will watch many times over. Where as a movie like superbad, the dvd version is just fine (if I buy that), because I really wouldn't care if I ever watched it agian.

1. Do I like the film?
2. Do I want to watch it more than once?

Simple as that.

I just like having a big collection and its an added bonus to make people like you upset just because people like me have a decent size collection.

I think thats what you wanted to hear/read. Lets see last time I checked there are over 500 Blu ray titles yes it might seem crazy that some people would like a fifth that are out there.

The movie itself. If it's something I already own then I check the AQ and PQ compared to my original DVD, but if I don't own it, then I honestly don't care about that as much as I care about owning the movie. I'm not going to sit and wait 6-12 months until the "re-mastered re-release, double dip extravaganza" if it's something I've been waiting to see.

In my case it is mainly the rewatchability factor. Consider story line, acting/actors, director, cinematography. Then of course the PQ and AQ.

First off I have to like the movie, or at least think I will like it if it's a blind buy. Next up is whether or not I think I'll actually watch it multiple times. Then lastly, my decision is based upon PQ in reviews.

i depend a lot on the reviews from several different sources prior to my purchases. sustained rewatchablity is the main factor.

In order of importance

1) I like the Movie
2) Lossless Audio
3) Great PQ

Extras are nice, but I rarely watch them frankly accept for those few movies at the top of my list.

Cool

I've seen the movie & like it.
Heard good reviews of the Bluray PQ & AQ
I see it in the store/net at a reasonable price. (no $29.99 for Hitman, maybe $24)

I've got a bit over 100 titles. I don't care about reviews as I often disagree with them. I look at the following:

1) Price - I don't like paying $30, so it better be a movie I love for that price.
2) Studio - This really only counts for Disney, since I love their titles and the overall disc quality.
3) Actors - If a movie has an actor I like, I'd be willing to get it for them.
4) Trailer - I usually just watch a trailer for a movie and buy it if it looks cool.

While trailer is usually the last consideration, it's the most important. I love to blind buy, as it's a great way to get a theatre experience at home. As nice as it will be to own Star Wars on BD, I have seen it hundreds of times. With a blind buy, I get PQ that's better than the theatre and that edge-of-your-seat excitement from seeing a movie the first time.

Of course, any title I already know I like gets itself bought as well. I don't buy DVD anymore, at all.
