Magnolia Pictures had acquired U.S. rights to S. Craig Zahler's Western "Bone Tomahawk," which will be fully financed by 2929 Entertainment. Kurt Russell, Peter Sarsgaard, Jennifer Carpenter and Timothy Olyphant are attached to star in the film.

"Bone Tomahawk" follows an outlaw who unknowingly leads a band of cannibalistic Troglodytes into the peaceful western town of Bright Hope. When the monsters kidnap several settlers, including a rancher’s wife, a small rescue party consisting of the injured rancher, the sheriff, his aging deputy and a strong-willed gunslinger, journey into hell to try and rescue them. They soon find themselves in dark unknown territories where savage inbreeds armed with the ultimate weapon leave no hope of survival.

Production is scheduled to start in August in Utah.

it sounds pretty good and I'm glad I can see Kurt Russell on the big screen again!

Magnolia and 2929 Film = Direct to video with days and date VOD, and an incredibly limited theatrical release.

Glad to have Kurt Russell back on the big screen, even if is limited, VOD, etc.
Two suggestions - get John Carpenter to direct and pick another title.

Looks like Peter Sarsgaard and Timothy Olyphant are no longer attached to the project, but adding Fox and Wilson is

RLJ/Image recently picked up all domestic rights (Magnolia's rights must have lapsed) so expect a limited day-and-date release in a few months before hitting home formats (a Blu-ray should happen as Image has been good about putting new movies on both Blu and DVD).

I'm happy to see this resurgence of Westerns. I'll admit that I didn't really give the genre a chance until I played through Red Dead Redemption, which came out a day before my 19th birthday, but I've loved the genre since.
