Now we have reached a high level of conversion quality/technology I think it would be fun to list your favourite conversions.
I don't want A debate about native vs conversions, just what the thread says... This also covers animated movies that have been re-rendered in 3D. To get the ball rolling I would say Titanic is about the best I have seen, though I also like Wrath of the Titans, The Avengers and MIB3 is right up there. Animated, I think Beauty and the Beast looks gorgeous. Excuse my prior mention of Madagascar 3 and Tangled! I had a brain freeze. Kunf Fu Panda is up there too. ps have not seen Jurassic Park yet, but from what I hear, this could also make the list. Last edited by sookymonster; 05-29-2013 at 06:22 PM. Reason: wrong info! |

Tangled and Madagascar 3 was made in 3D from the beginning of their productions.
Re rendered CGI movies can't be compared to cut out conversions. The only really good Re Rendered CGI movies I think are Kung-Fu Panda and Monsters Inc. Cut out conversions I like are Titanic and Jurassic Park. That's it. Cut out is a nice novelty but the results aren't that nice. |

The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast are the only conversions I can see the 3D in consistently.
I'm not saying the others look bad. Y'all would totally disagree with that! I'm saying I'm mostly blind... |

------- For Direct Conversions (no CGI 3D) Jurassic Park 3D and Titanic 3D, both by the Stereo D from what I remember, are tops. For what seems like another direct conversion (no CGI 3D), Immortals 3D is also a favorite even if it pales in comparison to the prior two. I actually don't mind the "cut out" look too much, as long as the dimension is obvious. The 3D here is only average, and not the best, but I like what was done here. For Hybrid Conversions (live action conversion with CGI 3D) MIB 3 3D Avengers 3D John Carter 3D There are others, but these stand out in my mind. Last edited by Zivouhr; 05-30-2013 at 06:59 PM. |

Based upon the answers so far, I think some are interpreting the question as refering to the quality of the conversion process and others are answering with respect to how well they like the movie itself. As far as the quality of the conversion is concerned, I think Titanic is the best I've seen. MIB III is also really good, likely because of the amount of natively rendered 3D CGI that is really "true" 3D to begin with. That said, I'm joining the chorus with a big thumbs down to all conversions versus "real" 3D. I sometimes enjoy a conversion or two, but then when I watch something in real 3D I really notice the difference.

Thor's 3D gets a lot of criticism, but the decent 3D layers are hard to miss when I watch it, so I like it as well. Captain America also is good, even though they both could be stronger in 3D.
A hit or miss movie for 3D conversion would be Dredd 3D. It has great 3D, and then the next shot is weak 3D and so on. With Titanic and Jurassic Park's 3D, we get stronger 3D layering, few conversion errors and a definite sense of three dimension. Even most of the edges of human hair look decent, which is probably one of the more difficult materials to separate for layering. |
