This was in another post but I liked it..

Hitchcock made a film almost every year on average..1925-1975 = 53 feature films just a little over 1 per year average. There's a few duds and misses but far more good to great films overall IMO. Not to mention he directed 20 episodes of his TV show, as well as overseeing the production (in an executive sense) for 10 years that it ran.

There are several variations of releases that vary by country. Some have the masterpiece set in 2 parts to be more affordable, some group 3 titles together and individual titles will all be out everywhere, likely by the end of the year.

I figured that there's no point in trying to keep the list current with all of the various releases worldwide, so I'm sticking with the current format.

Hmm... I get that this is a wish, but why would they package only one of their 3 existing British Hitchcocks with 2 new ones? I'd think they'd just release the 2 new ones seperately,

My big hope is that they end up distributing the 9 silent films that have just been restored in the UK and are touring the US, perhaps as a boxset:

The Silents would be great too but the three I mentioned are the only ones I know they have the rights to for sure at this time.

Well that have not been released anyway. OOOPPPSSS...I see I totally messed up in my original post...sorry about that. I meant to list Foreign Correspondent not The Lady Vanishes.

These are the three that I would like to see in a box set http://blog.criterioncast.com/post/4...-correspondent

But The Lady Vanishes has been released, I think that's why James Luckard is confused.

Let's have 2 Criterion box sets then:

The Silent Hitchcock - 9 films, newly restored and with new soundtracks
(10 if you include the talking version of Blackmail)

British Hitchcock - 15 films (not counting the silents) Any titles that they can release in one box is fine with me. I'll trade in my singles.

I would be happy if they just keep issuing individual titles, but more frequently.

And Warner needs to step it up, too. They're sitting on about 6 titles.

Is the packaging for the Masterpiece Collection pretty much the same as the UK set? From the pics I've seen it appears so.

Does anyone have any of the U.S. stand alone titles? Can you post pictures of the spines or full cover art scan? Just wondering as I like the uniformity of the U.K. (and the rest of the world) artwork but I may go with the U.S. ones once they're all released (at a good price) not 16.99 each. Even though I have the Masterpiece box the collector in me wants these, too.

I am hoping to catch some of the silents later this month as the tour will be in DC, but would love to have a boxset of them on blu so that I can see any of the ones I can't make it out to.

Would also love to see Alfred Hitchcock Presents get a bluray release, but not going to hold my breath on that one since I am not sure if all of the seasons have even been released on DVD.

I already own North by Northwest and Psycho, the 50th Anniversary editions.

Probably pick up Rear Window and Vertigo next.

Never really cared much for The Birds.

I believe he's specifically referring to the individual releases from the Masterpiece collection.

I only saw The Lodger, as the others are more films that happened to be directed by Hitchcock than proper "Hitchcock films". they're filmed stage plays, etc.

If you see the restoration of The Lodger, be prepared that it looks gorgeous, and 99% of it is scored with period-appropriate orchestral music, but for some INSANE reason, they put some weird 90s-sounding pop song with a female vocalist over two scenes - first where the Lodger and the girl play chess and bond, and then at his flashback to the party at the end.

It's an atrocious, jaw-dropping, incomprehensible choice that had MANY people in the audience of normally quiet and respectful film snobs at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art laughing out loud.

It sounds like they dropped an old Corrs or Cardigans song into the film. Insane.

And worse it's the music track married to this restoration, so it's the only music track on the Blu-Ray in the UK. I only hope when it eventually makes it to BD here we get an alternate music option, maybe one of the ones from the MGM DVD.

The restoration has been uploaded to Youtube, check the song out at about 23:00:
