But Wicky is 100% right. Same thing with NY bagels. I'm not from NY and am partial to Chicago Pizza since I grew up on that. However, I knew a bagel place in Florida in my travels where the owner formerly from NY would bring NY water in to make his "NY bagels". I actually sampled the bagels with Florida vs NY water, and it made a difference. I have a bagel every morning when I am in NY on business, no comparison.
I can't talk about pizza (never had one in NY) but Montreal has the best Bagels and that is an undeniable fact.

Which is quite hilarious, actually. Like listening to people getting into a heated debate about where to get the best Chinese food in Finland. You just know there's gotta be a Chinese restaurant somewhere in Helsinki that uses magic Helsinki tap water to make its rice extra sticky...
no, needs to be water from China

It’s “Bob” but you aint getting no hints.
If it somehow leaks out from a contractor in the next several months then I will confirm or deny the information as it relates to the film I’m thinking of.

Plus, it’s not a done deal yet but, it should happen as the film is due and it appears that the $$ is in the budget for this year.

P.S.
Oh, I thought you were referring to Bob Harris, I guess you meant Rob Tomlin?
Anyway, no hints.
"Rob" I assume is happy whenever a client pays him.

I really don't think you have to worry.
The person involved chairs the Digital Preservation and Archiving Technology Committee of one of the most respected organizations related to cinema and is
one the founding directors of the board of the National Television and Video Preservation Foundation (which provides grants for the purpose of restoring and preserving documentaries and other independently-owned content as a legacy for future generations)…..among other feathers in his cap.

Actually I think Reykjavik Iceland has the worst pizza on the planet...and maybe the most expensive as well!

I'll tell you guys flat out, it's not the Godfather, or 2 or 3 (or all 3, or the TV movie versions. No godfather period)

It's not quite as hilarious as you think, since pizza as it is usually made in America is more of an American dish than an Italian one. People used to American-style pizza are often very disappointed when they try an authentic Italian pizza, so much so that a lot of tourist-oriented places in Italy Americanize their pizza so it's more what people are expecting.

Agreed - I was in Roma this past December and the pizza absolutely sucked. I didn't have any problem with it being different (texture, toppings, etc.), it's just that it didn't have as much flavour as the American & Canadian pizzas.

That being said, I probably had high expectations - which is never a good idea going into something.

Default Hi-resolution BD-audio discs?

Has there been any interest from the music industry to produce a successor (if you can call it that) to SACD and DVD-A using BD?

I still buy SACDs and DVD-A, but both are a dying breed.

(Sorry, just realized this should probably have been posted in the audio-insider thread!)

Gone With the Wind has already been mentioned by Warner Brothers. It's getting a 2009 release, along with North By Northwest and Wizard of Oz.

Since WB has been the leader in releasing and doing serious digital restorations on their classics, I'm going to guess that Citizen Kane is the film Penton-Man is referring to.

If it's not that, then I think it's one of the Spielberg gems. Jaws' 35th Anniversary is in 2010.

I'm hoping Sound of Music. "Bob" has been unhappy about that one for quite some time.

Hmmmm, I have a few titles in mind.

Sounds like a single movie, not part of a trilogy or series... or perhaps the first of a series.

Tricky....

This means a digital restoration, not some video restoration of an HD format (which in itself, is not an inexpensive proposition) but a full blown digital restoration with all the trimmings starting with the OCN. I suspect that Robert Harris will be called in for the color stuff, at least.

This could, and I emphasize the word could, have implications as to the home theater (Blu-ray) edition in 2009 or 2010.
So far, everything is hush-hush. Just bookmark this post.

It is a title that everyone here if familiar with.

Raiders of the Lost Ark?

Apparently no-one in the industry is interested in BD for high resolution audio - the word is that they are already moving to downloads. Check out the article on page 56 of issue #181 of TAS , where Alan Taffel reports on next-gen audio from CES2008.

P-M,

It has been announced that Sony Pictures will be the distribution and marketing arm for Anchor Bay’s films, TV and fitness product in Asia, Latin America and parts of Europe.

http://www.homemediamagazine.com/new...ticle_ID=12427

1. In which countries of Europe will Sony distribute Anchor Bay titles?

2. Does that agreement include Blu-ray?

(I know Starz/Anchor Bay isn't region encoding its Blu-rays, but the lack of any subtitles is a pain.)
