And The Killing/Killer's Kiss combo is a great Blu-Ray to own, I highly recommend it.

Then again, I am a big Kubrick fan, I even bought the mediocre Fear and Desire just for completism.

It's still a great value for the package contains Killers Kiss.
Great Owl, I highly recommend Killing and Killer's Kiss - a great one-to-punch with plenty of grit, and as indicated here somewhat different than Kubrick's other work. For me, his filmography ranks thusly . . .

1. Paths of Glory
2. The Shining
3. Barry Lyndon
4. Clockwork Orange
5. The Killing
6. Spartacus
7. 2001
8. Dr. Strangelove
9. Lolita
10. Eyes Wide Shut
11. Full Metal Jacket
12. Killer's Kiss
13. [need to see Fear and Desire]

In truth, I like all of these films a lot and consider them to be masterpieces, or minor or near masterpieces. I especially love the roles that Sellers played but perhaps like the other movies on whole better. Anyways, I'm a big Kubrick fan and, in the words of the Office: "I celebrate the guy's whole catalog."

Sorrentino and Servillo reunited - I know it will be special!

I cannot wait for a Blu-ray release to be announced

Pro-B
As I'm off teaching for the summer, I've cobbled some funds together and moved to Paris for a couple of months, where I'm living in a really mixed low-income West African, North African, Middle Eastern neighborhood. I'm having lots of fun - hardly any French is spoken in this area, which is fine with me, because my French is basic, basically not good. But the mix of foods - from orthodox Jewish cuisine to the standard donner kabob joints to Malian/Benin/Ivory Coast food (lots of peanut gravies), I'm in heaven . . . and wishing I had my Secret of the Grain disc, or some Dardennes brothers, or La Haine, or Le Havre . . . to fit my mood and my surroundings.

The bad: I don't have my DVD/BD collection with me and am seriously jonesing. Even just reading this forum is making me homesick for my movies and my couch, as I like watching or revisiting movies that are being actively discussed on the thread, such as, these days, Charade or the Game. Jonesing, yeah, wow, I'm really addicted, or at least attached to those babies.

The good: La Grande Bellezza is currently playing here just a couple Metro stops away.

The ugly: Italian film, with subtitles obviously in French, so I might not comprehend the full extent of the great beauty after all . . . but as I do understand some French and also comprehend much Italian I figure it'll work out in the end or somehow. Hey, there's lots worse than watching Sorrentino in Paris.

Placing another Amazon order...

I started reading about Brazil and just *have* to see it now, so I'm ordering that, On the Waterfront, and one more...

The Game or Purple Noon? Trying to decide!

Tempted to keep going but I will buy more next month at the B&N sale when I can save a bit more. Came out with a decent haul:

The Thin Red Line
The Man Who Knew too Much
The Lady Vanishes
On the Waterfront
Ministry of Fear
Night of the Hunter

I completely forgot that the Ragin' Cajun makes an appearance in Old School. Damn, if I had The War Room, I would pop that in right now

Probably shouldn't have made another order, but if I'm going to buy them anyway, I might as well get them at 50%, right?

The Magician
Yojimbo
Beauty and the Beast
Kagemusha
Vanya on 42nd Street

Alright. Now to stop looking at Amazon for a month...

A bit off-Criterion-topic, but have you seen this Portlandia promo?

I have with the BBY order I placed for Night of the Hunter and Amarcord. I received them today and both are crushed and pretty hammered on the corners and edges. Amarcord looks like its been sitting on the shelf at Blockbuster for a year. I'm taking them back and will just rebuy during the B&N sale. And I do have Repo Man coming from Amazon, so now I'm a little worried.

I finally popped in my copy of The Seventh Seal tonight, and as Chapter 14 rolled around, my disc completely froze and I had to reboot the blu-ray player. Same result with my other one as well. Just sent an email to Mr. Mulvaney, but I doubt they are around during the weekend. Please don't ruin the ending for me!

Have you tried updating your firmware at all? I've heard of some people having to do that with the Seventh Seal.
