Really loving this sale right now. I already picked up House and The Red Shoes from the sale but looking for more. I am considering these titles and I will probably be able to afford about three or four of them: Badlands (love malick's work), Breathless, The 400 Blows, Band of Outsiders, The Night of the Hunter, The Great Dictator (never seen a Chapin film, which is his best?) Any help would be greatly appreciated, Silent. Edit: I picked up The Night of the Hunter, The 400 Blows and Badlands to round out my criterion haul. Add House and The Red Shoes to that and it makes five great (hopefully) titles.

Paths of Glory
Sweet Smell of Success
Sweet Smell of Success has generated plenty of talk over the years and virtually all of it is overwhelmingly positive and rightly so.

It's fantastic.

As is the rest of your foursome. Paths of Glory and Sweet Smell of Success are two of my favorite releases.

Which one should I get? I really can't choose

EDIT: I haven't seen any of these
All good movies, but 12 Angry Men is the best.

Rosemary's Baby has been a personal favorite since I was a kid but yeah, it would be hard to recommend anything on that list over 12 Angry Men.

I keep all my Criterions seperate, in alphabetical order, in groups of case type. First is all the releases in plastic cases, then the cardboard packages, with box sets at the end. I don't like the way it looks with the plastic cases and the cardboard cases mixed together.

Yeah Rosemary's Baby is a great movie, it would probably be my second pick from that list.

I'm a big Chaplin fan. Great Dictator is good, but imho second rank.

I think Gold Rush and Modern Times are both much better. Coin toss between those two for me.

Goodness, with all this love for 12 Angry Men, I'm beginning to regret purchasing The Thin Red Line instead.

I love both of those movies, I just love 12 Angry Men a bit more. I think either one is a good choice.

I'm seriously about to purchase 12 Angry Men right now just to get that feeling of regret out of my gut.

Nonsense, I say...nonsense.

Libraries don't mindlessly alphabetize. Neither do bookstores or museums or art galleries or video stores or cemetaries.

And do you know why?

Because no civilized society could long survive a system that puts Above the Law at one end of a building and Under Siege all the way at the other.

Seriously, what kind of person would do that?

don't feel bad with thin red line, for me I would choose thin red line any day over 12 angry men, and I have owned both, but i kept thin red line, and traded 12 angry men

last emperor is great but you will want the 4 disc dvd set as well, with the television version, due to the fact that it's not on the blu ray

Is there's a difference between the television version and movie theater version?

yes it's longer, and it adds more scenes
but the discs that have the bonus features are the same, and the only other difference is a much bigger booklet with more essays and expanded essays from the blu ray book
163 min blu ray version | 219 min (television) dvd version

That's a bummer. Does Criterion Collection plans to revisit in the future, where it'll have the 219 minute version?
