Many of us regard Returns as the favorite, but as a Batman fan the one glaring flaw of this movie is Bruce Wayne revealing his identity.

You can complain about the mutated Penguin idea, or the Catwoman ressurection scenario, but that one moment in that film was some bullshit.

And I didnt like the remix in Batman & Robin or Forever, when he yelled his identity in the circus crowd.

Penguin as a freak was quite different yet i kind of liked it with a different perspective on the character. And did you thought Devito was terrific as Penguin? he's almost as good as Burgess Merideth and Paul Williams.

But what do you think of the Selina Kyle and Penguin designs on the first 3 seasons of TAS?

BATMAN RETURNS is one of my favorite Batman films... until the new ones came, it was my all time favorite. Dark, great characters, visually stunning throughout.. great flick!

Devito did a great Penguin. I prefer the low key Gotham gangster w/ version, but the Blueblood mutant remix was cool for that version.

Selina Kyle as Selina or the Catwoman spandex costume design?

Mediocre....I actually prefer the all black costume of the latter seasons. But she looked less human though...

As for the Penguin...

I prefer the more human upright version.

I don't see anything.

I mean Selina Kyle as blonde instead of brunette on the first 3 seasons.

Weren't the extras nice on the BD including the commentary?

Batman Returns has always been my favourite Batman movie. It is a perfect film. People complained because it was much darker than Batman but in my opinion when it comes to Batman, the darker the better. Yes, the movie was more violent than it's predecessor but Batman didn't have too much action in it.

I gotta say, Batman Returns was given amazing treatment for Blu-Ray. The Picture Quality is phenomenal, not only is it perfect but it looks like what HD Video is supposed to look like. Being the first film to be mixed in 5.1 Audio the lossless (Dolby TrueHD) 5.1 Audio Mix is incredible. It is a nice improvement over the 5.1 DTS Track on the Special Edition DVD which was already a really good mix.

I also love that all the special features from the Two-Disc Special Edition DVD were ported over. Not only is Batman Returns is a great movie to own on Blu-Ray, but the HD transfer alone makes it worth owning.
The soundtrack on the BD does improve over the DVD so far and it looks/sounds great for a 21 year old film. The Coloring is fantastic too.

Batman Returns is one of my favorite movies. I used to watch it over and over on VHS all the time when I was younger. But now, the only thing about it that I don't like is that Gotham City felt smaller to me than it did in the first one. Returns seemed to take place in just the town square and the zoo.

Yeah, I agree,...but isnt there some of "Studio" Gotham w/ the Catwoman and even Christopher Walken scenes? All the rooftop stuff.

I think that since most fans including myself consider Batman Returns the best Batman live action movie, Warner Bros decided to go all out and create a phenomenal HD Presentation for the Blu-Ray, which they accomplished.

Even the transfer for the Blu-Ray of Batman (1989) is excellent as well but in my opinion Batman Returns looks even better than Batman.

In the end though, the transfers for both the Blu-Rays of Batman and Batman Returns are splendid improvements over the transfers created for the 2-Disc Special Edition DVDs.

I imported the UK versions of B89 and Returns when they came out and the PQ blew me away, though certain visual effects in B89 stuck out like a sore thumb. For instance, in the beginning of the film when Batman is seeing the thugs mug the family, Batman is clearly just an animation and looks very odd. This is something I never noticed on the DVD version. However, the matte shots of Gotham look fantastic.

Did anyone else had a crush on Catwoman growing up? i did since i was 8 when i saw reruns of the 60's show and Julie Newmar with Lee Meriwether both caught my eye as i was in love with them and i read the comics as i thought she looked gorgeous in the purple outfit. Then i saw Batman Returns in theaters and watched the animated show, she looked hot as a blonde on TAS and Michelle's version was stunning.

Catwoman along with Abigale Arcane in Swamp Thing, Wonder-Woman, Batgirl, Harley, Ivy, Black-Cat etc. as one of my comic book character crushes.

WB did a good job on the PQ.

This was the last good live-action Batman film before Schumacher destroyed the series and Nolan rebooted it

Still my favourite Batman film too, nice to see some love for it here.
Never could get into the Nolan's personally. Great shame we never got another Burton/Keaton film.

On the Batman Returns disc? Hmm... Are we looking at the same disc? Or are you watching on a small screen? It's very clearly not from a 1080p master, details look fuzzy and pixely, much like the original Fugitive disc. It's a step up from the DVD, but badly needs to be remastered in full 1080p, ideally from original elements.

These are my previous comments, which got buried on the previous page:

Quote:
Fine edges, diagonal lines, and anything bright (like the "Hell here" sign and the "Schreck's" department store sign, all have very obvious, blocky, pixely elements.

They clearly just recycled a dated HD transfer that was created for the last go-round of DVDs. This film badly needs to be remastered.

If anyone can't see the pixels, look at the two neon signs I described, they're the most obvious instances, but the problem is present in almost every shot.
