Not really. It came out in March. It was due for a price drop. A bunch of other WB titles dropped in price too.

Today's MPAA Ratings Bulletin included a rating for The Hobbit Extended Cut being PG-13 for extended sequences of intense fantasy action violence, frightening images and fleeting nudity. The release is still listed as TBA 2013, though.

'Fleeting nudity' must involve the Dwarves bathing in Rivendell, a scene spoken about before.

I'd be shocked if it wasn't since it was recorded in 3D in the first place.

Have you guys seen the new trailer for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug? I am at work and can't attach the trailer, but I was able to see it....looks promissing IMO!

Yep, really excited for it! The Barrels Out of Bond scene looked awesome, and Smaug looks incredible.

Hope that's true, I held off getting the 3D edition since I was planning on buying the Extended Edition anyway. I really hope they do a more classic cover on the EE though, something like the DVD's for Lord of the Rings first did. Matching the soundtrack special edition cover could be something cool, I'd prefer not even having pictures on the front.

Perhaps not, but it might help in regards to fleshing out certain characters, and perhaps giving some Dwarves a bit more screen time.

From the sound of it, I would normally agree with you. But I remember similar things being said about rumored scenes in the Extended Editions of the Lord of the Rings. Many of the scenes that were added were arguably unnecessary, but are now some of my favorite moments in the trilogy. So I'm willing to reserve judgment until I actually see the new scenes in context.

I am planning to get the EE anyways, so it will be interesting to see how it all holds up together.

I'm really torn on these releases. (I've held off on buying the LotR trilogy on Blu because I can't decide which I want.)

I like the films enough to have in my collection, they are fun to re-visit now and then... I've only seen one of the extended editions (Return of the King) and I don't know if it was the mood I was in at the time or not, but it seemed a little TOO long for my liking.

So, my question. Would you suggest the theatrical versions or the extended versions? I should make up my mind before I get too much further behind.
