RGB set to full

Super White on

Set to Y Pb/b Pr/Cr

1080p/24 on, if your TV supports it

I think that's it.

I have a 720p. Should I set it to that or 1080i? I heard there 720p settings look bad on some TVs.

Thanks for the help

http://sr-388.net/images/patterns/Brightness.jpg save that link to your ps3, then turn RGB to full. if you can read it your tv supports rgb, if you cant read it then it does not.

While some tvs to be set correctly need RGB full, the majority of tvs for proper dvd/BD playback need the PS3 to send RGB limited. The rest of the settings are dead on. Improperly setting the RGB option can prevent the PS3 from sending blacker than black information from the disc and lead to black "crush".

So even if my TV supports RGB, should I still set it to limited?

I've got a Samsung HP-S4253 by the way. In case anyone knows a specific setting.

Thanks for the link Saprano. I appreciate the help, all

Yeah thanks for posting that picture. I went on my PS3 saved the picture, and I had my RGB at full and I couldn't see the 1233 at all(it was just a black/blank screen), but when I changed it to limited, I could clearly see the 1234. So I guess my tv doesn't suppose RGB full!

If you change it to Y Pb/b Pr/Cr instead of RGb, can you still use the setting RGB full? Is it better to have it on Y Pb/b Pr/Cr rather than RGB under the BD/DVD settings?

Default Still don't get it.

Sorry. Let me get this straight. You said to keep it under Y Pb/b Pr/Cr for Bd/DVD setting but previously select the full in RGB before changing the setin to Y Pb/b Pr/Cr?

Would you be more specific? say doommy proof?

Just to clear up a few things in this thread:

(1) The Y Pb/b Pr/Cr is for Blu-ray/DVD playback only.

It doesn't affect gaming. Note that not all TVs correctly support Y Pb/b Pr/Cr, but "most" do, and you generally get better color definition from Y Pb/b Pr/Cr than RGB due to some quirks in how the colorspaces are managed (RGB sometimes produces color banding on gradients on some sets, though this generally isn't an issue for games).

This is why it makes sense to use RGB Full as well as Y Pb/b Pr/Cr, assuming your TV supports both.

(2) Black crush happens when you have a dark scene with details in heavy shadow (i.e. a scene in a movie that's lit by candlelight or some other weak light source). On a setup that is suffering from black crush, everything in shadow becomes a solid mass of indistinguishable black. On a properly functioning setup, you'd see the smaller details in the dark-but-not-quite-black areas.
