Can someone tell me
[Show spoiler]why Superman went after Zod in the scout ship and had to destroy it and all the unborn Kryptonians? I mean, he didn't have the codex yet so Zod couldn't bring any of them to life. And Zod wasn't using the ship as some sort of kamikaze because he couldn't kill his people. What was the movie reasoning for this?

[Show spoiler]I thought he went after the ship because Zod was attacking the airplane that Lois was in.

Looking good for the Box Office.

Okay, I just got back from seeing it. I'm not going to write a big review on it, because I don't have time for that right now, but I do want to make a few quick comments.

First of all, if you expect this to be like Donner's Superman 78, and aren't accepting of a big departure from that type of tone, then you will be greatly disappointed. This is a gritty, modern, serious interpretation of Superman, but it does not defile the character the way some critics would lead you to think. I love Donner's Superman, but I loved this movie, too.

Sure, there are plenty of things that can be nitpicked, just as there are with a lot of other good movies, but there is just so much to like about it, too. I can see how some would say it was a little imbalanced as far as storytelling goes, with the flashbacks and all, but it hits all the essential beats necessary for a Superman origin movie and it even expands on a few things. The action does tend to be somewhat excessive, but not so much because it doesn't let up and there's too much of it, or because it is too violent, but mostly because of the level of destruction that is shown and how it goes unaddressed at the end. I suppose...
[Show spoiler] the final scene with Clark joining the Daily Planet at the end is a big time jump from the final battle with Zod, because after that last fight, Metropolis was practically annihilated to nothing. I do hope they address how the city, or at least the Daily Planet building, was rebuilt in such a short time in the sequel. I think it might actually be a good way to introduce Lex Luthor, if you say he helped in rebuilding Metropolis.

But really, when it comes down to it, the action was great! In my opinion, this movie kicked ass! And even if it wasn't your cup-of-tea or it didn't do for you what you had expected it would, I still don't understand how anyone could say it was a bad movie at all. This is a great science fiction epic-level superhero movie!

The cast was great. Henry Cavill does not quite have the same charm as Christopher Reeve (yes, I'm going to compare now, just to make a point), but he still embodies the character of Superman perfectly in his own way. The whole cast was great actually, with Faora surprisingly being a standout favorite of mine.

I think it's unfair that people are being so harshly critical of it, when there are so many other worse films that have higher ratings. I think this film breaks the mold and was very daring in its approach to Superman, and despite what some people may say, it did so without changing what Superman is about. This is still Superman -- He's just a Superman that kicks more ass!

I look forward to the sequel.

I give the Man of Steel 4/5 stars.

That's a solid reason, I guess. But
[Show spoiler]it kind of says that Lois is more important than what's left of his species which is either good or bad. I mean, it's like him accepting Earth as his home, love, etc.
I need to rewatch it.

[Show spoiler]If I am not mistaken, I believe that ship had some sort of weapon system on it, nothing major something for defense since it was a scout ship. I recall Zod saying about arming or weapons up right around the time Clark flys into the ship. Besides, a bump to the plane could have been enough to bring it down and out of balance.

[Show spoiler]If Zod did destroy the plane than the Kryptonians would not have been sent to the Phantom Zone since not Black Hole would have formed. I don't think it had anything to do with Lois being on the plane.

[Show spoiler]That plane also had the weapon they were using to destroy that half of the earth engine and create the portal to send the Kryptonians back to the Phantom zone if I remember correctly. So, he was placing the Human race ahead of the Kryptonian clones in a way. Seems like he had decided that Earth was the home for Humans, not a second Krypton.

Out of the three MAD HYPED films of This Is The End, Before Midnight and Man Of Steel, I can honestly say this is the only one that wasn't boring for a second. The other two films DRUG on. Fact.

Anyways, I's not some nitpicky comic book type, and the original four films were nothing special imo. Superman Returns was awful.

That said, I give MOS 4.5/5(or a 4 in the poll).

I actually thought I'd miss the famous score of the original films, but this one fit the film far better. The subtle piano score was so good. The whole thing was very good, and may be a buy in the next few weeks.

I thought all the actors were great. Story was fine.

The only thing that I had issue with is the action could be over kill at times. Not sure if that's a bad thing or not.

I am really ashamed to read all the bad reviews for this, Star Trek 2 and Iron Man 3 on these boards. It's almost if most of you can't enjoy a fun time at the movies anymore. What kind of sad life is that?

I think it's a bit odd that Superman dies in the end. Also, where did Zod get that Kryptonite gun from? And isn't it a little unrealistic that Ma Kent kills Zod, hell bent on revenge by dropping him off a building? He was flying all around town in an earlier scene?

[Show spoiler]This movie isn't out in Oz yet, and I haven't seen it. There's just been a lot of spoilering in this thread, and I thought y'all might have a laugh from this.

I recommend people, do not see this movie in 3D! I dindt go well for me and in my second viewing it was a total experience! Faora Rocks!!!!!
No. I saw it in 2D in IMAX, and even still my head was buzzing at the end. Sooooo much CGI. But I still liked it.

I definitely agree with that. And
[Show spoiler]that makes perfect sense, with him feeling guilty for not saving his father, despite it going against his father's wishes.

Technically there are 6 kinds of people...

- Those who know & love the character + love the film
- Those who know & love the character + hate the film
- Those who don't know the character + love the film
- Those who don't know the character + hate the film

Youcan't just blanket all of the people who are conversing on this subject into 1 of 2 categories like that. There are hundreds (if not thousands) of variables that play into each individuals experience when watch any given film. There are many variations on the "types of people" in this thread.

Re: The Scout Ship...

[Show spoiler]Clearly Superman is like Jor-El and is a champion of natural birth. So they had to die. Now Superman needs to start knocking boots with every human he can find to create a hybrid race. Okay, I'm being facetious there. But the whole Scout Ship and Terraforming thing doesn't make much sense when you think about it anyway.

Long ago the Kryptonians sent out Scout Ships to find planets to terraform to expand their reach and such. And those ships are outfitted with those birthing chambers to create new Kryptonians. But hang on a second...

We saw how the Codex and the Birthing Chambers worked on Krypton at the beginning of the film. But wouldn't every ship need it's own separate Codex as well? If the birthing chambers that are on board are meant to start cranking out settlers for those new worlds. Especially since the Codex on Krypton seemed pretty hardwired into the Birthing Matrix we saw. It's just a big... HuhBuhWha? moment when you think about it.

Why have the Birthing Matrixes on the Scout Ships if they're useless without the Kryptonian Codex that's back on Krypton. It makes as much sense as there just happening to be a House of El set of super undies on board. And yeah, the comic may explain that Kara was on that other ship or whatever. Or they may eventually say that the computers created the costume for him once Jor-El was integrated into it. But still... kinda hinky.

I'm kind of middle of the road. The biggest problem with this movie IMHO is that Superman was playing second fiddle to Zod in the character development department.
